Champions were crowned in three classes at Tilleda's Thunder On Ice during the final points race of the 2009 season.
RWD Studded Champion for the season is Craig "Pugs" Wildenberg, 2nd Mike Schmidt and 3rd goes to "The Wiley" Veteran Ben Michonski.
RWD Non-Studded Champion is the expecting dad, any day now, Dan Michonski, 2nd goes to Clint “Chucky” Forstner and 3rd is Nate Michonski.
FWD Non-Studded Champion went to Greg Gutt picking up 6 of the 7 features this season, 2nd goes to Jeff Jolitz in his first season and 3rd goes to Dusty Grall.
Mel Westphal in the 11 trys to keep the rest of the RWD Non-Studded field in checkRWD Studded feature took to the ice first. Ben Michonski led the field to the green with Mike Schmidt in the second spot and Craig Wildenberg starting third. On the opening lap, Wildenberg jumped into the second spot to give chase to Michonski. Wildenberg was able to catch Michonski on lap 4 and run side by side for two laps. But in the end it was Michonski that was able to pull ahead of Wildenberg and open up a 3-4 car length lead. At the checkers it was Michonski picking up two in a row, Wildenberg and Schmidt.
John Babino in the 01x and Matt Skarzynski in the 27 lead this FWD Non-Studded heat raceFourteen RWD Non-Studded cars took the green led by the 39 of David Rindt with the 11 of Mel Westphal on the outside. As always this is the most competitive race of the day and there is action on every lap. Westphal was able to get to point and lead the first few laps as the point leaders started at the rear of the field. This race saw a couple different leaders as Eddie Jung along with Tony Schwamer were able to find the front. But those point leaders are in the lead for a reason as patience will pay off in the end. By lap ten those point leaders found their way to the front with Dan Michonski taking the lead while Nate Michonski and Clint Forstner battled for the runner-up spot. As the double checkers waved over the field it was Dan Michonski picking up the win with brother Nate in second and C. Forstner bringing home third. Dan had 3 feature wins with Nate and Clint each picking up 2 apiece.
RWD Studded feature winner Ben MichonskiFWD Non-Studded feature was the final class to take to “Lake Speed“ today. The 01 of John Babino, running a borrowed car today to try and hold on to his third place in the points will lead the field to the green with the 27 of Matt Skarzynski starting on the outside. Skarzynski will take the lead for the first two laps. On lap three Dusty Grall was able to get by the 82K of Carl King to get to and pass Skarzynski for the lead. Back in the pack the 1 of Jeff Jolitz and the 20 of Greg Gutt were trading paint and scratching to get to the front. By lap ten Gutt was able to get past Grall in his 6 ride and lead the final 4 laps leaving Grall and Jolitz to fight for the scraps. In the end it was Gutt, Grall & Jolitz the top three.
RWD Non-Studded feature winner and season champion Dan MichonskiThe points battle may be over for the season, but next weekend, Sat. March 7th and Sun. the 8th will be the 2009 Kings Of Ice will be held at Tilleda on Sat and Sun. on Shawano Lake at Cecil Bay. This special will be hosted by Tilleda’s Thunder On Ice and Fire On Ice. Two day point totals will be awarded in all four classes and the King in each class will be crowned.
