Menomonie WI – The unpredictable Spring weather has now cost the Red Cedar Racing Association one week of action at the Red Cedar Speedway.
Originally scheduled to open their thirty sixth consecutive year of racing on Friday night, April 10th , the opener has now been officially moved back one week.
“We need a week of warm weather to properly prepare the race track for the opener,” stated Red Cedar Speedway Marketing Director Rick Hagen. “On top of that, it has been so cold in the evenings that we haven’t even been able to open up the water lines, for fear of an evening freeze up.”
The season is now expected, weather permitting, to begin on Friday, April 17th at 7 p.m. The racing program will be much the same as the last few years, featuring four classed of WISSOTA sanctioned racing plus the Red Cedar Pure Stocks. Running weekly under the WISSOTA banner will be the Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks and Street Stocks.
Among the special events at the speedway are a $2,000 to win Late Model special on July 3rd with absolutely no increase in spectator admission, the Season Championships which will be contested on August 14th and the 21st and the 30th annual Punky Manor Challenge of Champions on September 25th and 26th .
In another exciting development, the Red Cedar Speedway board has announced that the track will be starting a Hall of Fame and the first induction ceremony will take place on May 29th .
Among the sponsors for the 2009 season are Miller Lite, Coca Cola, DKS Construction, Menomonie Rental Center, MDMA Equipment, WQOW, Citi Financial, Clear Channel Radio, Tri Mart/Hush Puppy, Value Implement, Dirt Track Specialties, Dunn County Veterans Service, Baxter’s Speed Shop, 24-7 Telcom, Keyes Chevrolet, Dean & Sue’s, Quality Auto Body, Budweiser and Tim’s Automotive Machine.
The Board of Directors of the Red Cedar Speedway are working to make every race night a special event in one way or another. Such fun things as a Daisy Duke look alike contest, Kid’s Night, Big Wheel races, $5 admission Jam the Stands night, Veterans and Armed Forces night, Cancer Rally for Life and Beach Night will make each race night an interesting and unique experience.
The Red Cedar Speedway is also promising the best race track food around with the addition of the award winning meats from Sailers Meat Market of Elmwood Wi featured every night.
