Schmidt, Buhler, & Gilles cap off Championship season with win at EWSC

Fighting off another round of storms, the track preparation crew worked in another track to get the first night of the Labor Day Show in the books. Some furious racing brought a few incidents, but a good show for the hearty fans in the stands.

360 Sprintcars
With B Main transfer cars of Jeremy Schultz (Beaver Dam), Tony Wondra (Campbellsport), Doug Wondra (Oakfield), Randy Brunette (Chilton), Pat Richer (Bark River, MI), and Kurt Davis (West Bend) added to the rear of the Feature field, Brandon McMullen (Plymouth) and Robbie Pribnow (Mayville) led the field of Sprinters down to the green flag. Pribnow would jump out to the lead and start to stretch it out running the high line. The field would be halted on Lap 3 as Eliot Kulow (Howards Grove) tipped over in Turn 4. Pribnow, McMullen, Ben Schmidt (Howards Grove), Brian Portschy (Plymouth) and Randy Sippel (Elkhart Lake) made up the top 5. On the restart a violent flip involving the cars of Doug Wondra, John Krebsbach and Brunette. Wondra and Krebsbach would be finished for the night as both cars were destroyed, while Brunette would continue. The race would go back under green with Schmidt challenging Pribnow for the lead, while Brunette and Schultz were moving through the field. At the halfway mark it was Schmidt, Pribnow, McMullen, Earl Possi (Rock, MI) and Sippel. Lap 25 produced the final caution, setting up a five lap dash to the checkers. Setting up for a run to the checkered flag were Schmidt, Pribnow, McMullen, Al Schlafer (Sussex), and Sippel. Coming to checkers both McMullen and Sippel would move up a spot, but Schmidt would take the victory to cap a championship season. McMullen, Pribnow, Sippel, A. Schlafer, Brunette, Kyle Marten (Sheboygan Falls), Scotty Thiel (Sheboygan), Jeff Wilke (Genoa) and Schultz would round out the top 10. Big movers honors to Brunette passing 14 cars, Schultz with 7 and Tony Wondra with 6.

Late Models
Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) and Kyle Odekirk (Plymouth) made up the front row for the Late Model Feature, while Eric Michaels (Cleveland) and Craig Schueffner (Sheboygan Falls) filled out Row 2. Schmidt would jump out to the lead, and after 5 laps the top 5 were Schmidt, Schueffner, Russ Scheffler (Waukesha), Rick Scheffler (Waukesha), and Tim Buhler (Glenbeulah). Lap 6 would bring the only yellow flag of the event, as Josh Moesch (Shawano) spun out in Turn 3. On the restart Russ would get around Schmidt for the lead, followed shortly by Buhler, Schueffner, and Jim Rychtik (Port Washington) as Schmidt slid back through the field. Buhler got around Scheffler at Lap 12 and would run out to a strong lead. Ron Stroika (Mukwonago) and Brad Lubach (Elkhart Lake) were making moves in the middle of the field to come forward. In the end it was Buhler taking the checkered to finish off his championship season, followed by Russ Scheffler, Schueffner, Rychtik, Rick Scheffler, Stroika, Randy Markwardt (Sheboygan), Schmidt, Lubach, and Odekirk. Big movers were Buhler with 9, Stroika with 6 and Rychtik and Lubach with 5 each.

Grand Nationals
Driving the first of his back to back Feature classes of the evening Brad Lubach (Elkhart Lake) and Steven Weber (Plymouth) led the Grand Nationals to the track for their Feature. They were joined by Matt Jackson (Sheboygan) and Phil Coopersmith (Plymouth) on the second row. Coopersmith would capture the lead on Lap 1 with a hard, fast move to the bottom, followed by Weber, Lubach, Jackson, and Tim Warner (Marytown). Weber would grab the lead on Lap 2, and would swap places with Lubach continuously for the next eight laps as the cars were battling high and low at the front of the pack. Tim Thompson (Campbellsport) and Kevin Lubach (Elkhart Lake) were starting to make moves through the middle of the pack around the mid-way point of the race. At the halfway mark it was Weber, Brian Gilles (Plymouth), Thompson, Coopersmith, and Warner rounding out the top 5, with Matt Vetting (Manitowoc), and Kevin and Brad Lubach tight on their heels. Lap 15 would bring out the first of three cautions before another lap would be completed. This one was for Mark Kuhfuss (Sheboygan Falls) spinning out on the backstretch. On the restart it would be the car of Coopersmith looping in in Turns 3 & 4. the next attempt would lead to an incident in Turn 4 involving the cars of Vetting, Steven Ruh (New Holstein), and Ryan Minster (Sheboygan). Kevin Lubach and Donny Kulow (Plymouth) picked up damage also, but Vetting was the only car unable to continue. The restart would show Gilles, Thompson, Brad Lubach, Weber, Warner, Brian Cesar (Sheboygan), Don Schumacher (Oconomowoc), Tyler Kulow (New Holstein), Coopersmith, and Minster. Big movers for the race were Cesar, JJ Pagel (St. Cloud), and D. Kulow picking up 7 spots and Thompson, T. Kulow, and Minster picking up 6 spots each.

Hobby Stocks
After Micheal Gilson (Elkhart Lake) dropped out with mechanical issues, Jeff Bender (Plymouth) and Terry Koenig (Mishicot) led the Hobby Stock Feature to the green. Koenig would take the lead with Ray Fuller (Manitowoc), Trevor Schmidt and Bradley Ruh (Elkhart Lake) following him. Fuller would take the lead on Lap 3 as Koenig would start to experience mechanical woes ans slide back through the pack. The only yellow of the race would fly on Lap 10 as Koenig came to a halt on the back stretch. The restart would show Fuller, Schmidt, Jeremy Hebel (Two Rivers), Ruh, Bender, and Boomer Graycarek. Fuller would take the win, with Hebel getting by Schmidt on the last lap for 2nd, Ruh, Bender, Graycarek, and Gilson -DNS.
