It was a cool crisp evening for racing, but the racing was anything but cool on Saturday night. The Piggly Wiggly Grand Nationals saw Tommy Moore win the A Main for the second consecutive week. He took the lead from Jim Rhode on lap number eight, lost the lead to Rhode on lap ten, but retook the lead one lap later and went on to the victory.
There were 25 Piggly Wiggly Grand Nationals on hand. The heat races went to Don Sorce Jr., Kenny Richards, and Roger Lee. The B Main was taken by Larry Zirbel over Dan Schumacher.
The A Main got under way with Eric Grunst taking the lead from the pole position. His lead would last until lap three when Jim Rhode would get by and take the point. Rhode would continue to lead, while Tommy Moore who started ninth would go to the high side to make his march to the front. On lap number eight, Moore would inch ahead of Rhode, but lap ten Rhode would regain the lead, only to have Moore take the lead for good on lap eleven. A good battle for second went on behind Moore with Don Sorce Jr. working his way around Kenny Richards, Tim Thompson and Rhode to finish in the second spot. Rhode would come home third, followed by Thompson and Richards.
The Weld Specialty Supply Modifieds had three heat races. The winners were Don Scheffler, Mitch McGrath, and Eddie Lemay Jr. The B Main saw Chris Piquette take the victory over Joel Crowbridge.
The A Main saw Jason Heyerdall go to the point, Brian Crapser would take over the lead on lap number two. He would lead the race until lap number eight when Don Scheffler got by on the inside. Scheffler’s lead would last only two laps as Dave Schoenberger, in a backup car, would use the high side to go around Scheffler on lap ten. Schoenberger, led the rest of the way to take the victory, Mike Sandholm would come home in the runner up spot, with Joel Jaeger third, Scheffler in fourth and Craig Priewe in fifth.
The Choice Insurance Legend Cars saw Joe Johnson and Joel Wyttenbach take home the heat race wins.
The A Main got underway with BJ Bates taking the lead. The lead would last until lap number three when Dallas Ross would go around Bates on the high side. Ross would lead until lap six when Joel Wyttenbach would use the inside to get by Ross. Brandon Schmitt would move to the runner up spot on lap seven and challenge for the lead but couldn’t get around Wyttenbach. Kevin Brill would use the inside to work his way towards the front as he got around Schmitt on lap fifteen for second. Wyttenbach would take the victory over Brill, Schmitt would come home third, Mike Mueller took fourth and BJ Bates would finish fifth.
The NAPA Street Stocks saw Chad Knaus and Brandon Riedner win the heat races.
The A Main got under way with Joe Brenner jump out front. Brenner would lead until lap seven when Jon Schultz would ride the high side to the top spot. A good battle went on behind Schultz for the second position between Aaron Streblow, Brent Lepple, Russ Dawison, and Brandon Riedner, with Riedner taking second ahead of Dawison, Streblow and Lepple. A post race rules infraction would take Dawison from third to a last place finish, moving Streblow to third, Lepple to fourth and Brenner to fifth.
The Performance Motorsports Sport Mods saw Brian Besaw and Jeff Steenbergen take home heat race victories.
The A Main saw Brandon Hummelmeier lead the first lap. Aaron Bolstad would take the lead from Hummelmeier and lead the next two laps. Jeff Steenbergen, who started tenth would charge to the front around Bolstad and take the lead on lap four. Steenbergen would survive two Dustin Jackson cautions and take the victory over Brian Besaw, Jeff Schmuhl would take third, followed by Zeke Bishofberger and Bolstad would come home fifth.
The Mid State Equipment Badger Midgets concluded there season. Mike Hess, the 2010 Champion would set quick time with a lap of 14.894 seconds. The heat races were won by Scott Hatton and Daniel Robinson.
The A Main saw Scott Hatton lead all twenty laps and hold off a hard charging Mike Hess to take the victory, Daniel Robinson would come home in third, followed by Bubba Altig and Brandon Waelti.
Next Saturday all five divisions will be in action, and crown their 2010 champions. Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30pm.
