Jeff Kendall always has a smile on his face when he walks around the pits at Dells Raceway Park, an American Speed Association Member Track, in Wisconsin Dells, WI. He enjoys the sport he competes in and hopes for the opportunity to show his talent at a higher level in racing.
The Montello, WI driver recently captured his fifth championship at Dells Raceway Park this past season. “It’s pretty good here, the owners are really good, most of the drivers are really good and its tough competition. We only had one DNF this year,” Kendall stated. “This is a nice track and once you learn how to get around this track, you can go anywhere and race. The setup is about the same anywhere we go.”
In 2009, Kendall will be back at Dells Raceway Park to defend his championship and will also be looking at the American Speed Association Member Track National Championship.
When Kendall was asked what it would mean to win the American Speed Association Member Track National Championship, he was excited about the opportunity of a tryout with Joe Gibbs Racing that the champion would receive, “I would love to get a chance to go and drive for Joe Gibbs Racing, and I’ll drive a Toyota.”
While Kendall enjoys racing on the local level, he would enjoy the opportunity to race at a higher level. He got that opportunity back in 2004 when he competed in six ARCA Re/Max Series events where he compiled one top-five and two top-ten finishes.
One of those top-ten’s came from at tenth place finish at Daytona. “We finished in the top-ten at Daytona, we started in the 20’s,” Kendall recalled. “We actually led some laps under caution. We didn’t have a really great car; we had a three year old Pontiac which didn’t have the aero we needed to get around there. I would try to pass a car on the straightaway there once and I had a run on him, pulled out to pass and ended up three car lengths behind him going into the corner.”
Kendall, who owns his own repair shop, is open for any opportunities that may come along for him and his family. In fact, his 13-year old son Robert made his debut in the Bandit division this past season and finished 11th in his first feature event.
