Giese On A Roll At Tilleda Thunder On Ice

FWD Studded heat action three wide coming out of turn four. - Randy Van Hoof PhotosBy: Randy Van Hoof Feb. 6, 2010 - B.J. Giese is on a roll in the FWD Non-Studded division, this first year ice racer has won all five feature so far this season, hope I don‘t jinx him. No less of a feat is Clint “Chucky” Forstner winning the last four features in the FWD Studded class but if not for the fact that he did not have a car ready for the opener, he too might have five wins. In the RWD Non-Studded class “The Pride Of Leopolis”, Dan Michonski has three feature wins after a close second last week and taking week two off. With wins at Tilleda, Fire On Ice and Mid-States Ice Racing, his total wins for the season is seven, that matches his previous season best and we still have three week left!

FWD Non-Studded heat action led by the 5 of Ben Blohowiak. - Randy Van Hoof PhotosFWD Studded feature started with the 8 of Tony Everhart and Calvin Stueck in the 35S on the outside. Everhart led Stueck for the first couple of circuits, then Calvin found the lead for a lap with Daryl Erickson in the 45E giving chase. As Clint Forstner was making his way to the front Erickson took his turn at the point. With five to go Forstner in the 64 found his way around Erickson and held on to for the win with Erickson finishing in the runner up spot.

RWD Non-Studded heat racers get stacke up in turn four. - Randy Van Hoof PhotosFWD Non-Studded class rolled out next with Cody Bierman in the 40 leading the field to the green. The full field of thirteen cars put on some great racing as there was action on every lap as the points leader B.J. Giese worked from the back of the pack. After lap one was in the books the 16 of Klint Szymanski got into the side of the 13 of Josh Jolitz and sent him around. Josh was able to recover saving a caution but put himself in a tough spot. Scott Weisnicht in the 53 was running a fine race and working his way forward. A caution on lap eight when somebody lost a bumper cover bunched the field for the final seven laps. From there it didn’t take Giese long to get to the front and pull out to a half lap lead at the checkers to take the win.

With fourteen RWD Non-Studded combatants ready to do battle this will prove to be the most competitive class on the ice! The 131 of Brandy Moede and the 39 of David Rindt leading the pack to the green. Moede will lead the first three laps as the battling heard roared behind him. Pete Forstner in the 46 was punching holes for his son Clint in the 64 and the pair worked there way to the front and put “Chucky” in the lead. Clint was busy picking his lines and checking out on the rest of the field. Dan Michonski was in a race of his own for second place but all most a half lap behind Forstner. As the field came around on lap nine there was debris on the back stretch to bring out the dreaded yellow that would not be Chuckys friend today. With five laps remaining and with “The Pride” now on Clint’s bumper and running the inside behind him it was only a matter of time. But “Chucky” was not going to roll over and give up very easy and the two battled side-by-side for the next three laps. With two to go Michonski would come out in the lead but not by very much, but in the end it was just enough as he would hold on for the win with Clint finishing in the runner up spot.

Racing continues every Saturday at 1:00pm through February.
