The annual Fire On Ice Invitational will drop the green flag at noon on Saturday February 19th. This year the club will use money raised to make a donation to the Charlie Knuth Benefit Fund. Knuth is a four year old from Darboy who suffers from epidermolysis bullosa,or EB, which makes his body blister inside and out. Each year the Fire On Ice racing club uses there invitational race to raise money for donations.
Past recipients include Childrens Hospital Of Wisconsin and the Special Olympics. This year the decision about where to donate the money seemed pretty easy. “When you see the stories on tv about this young hero it just tugs on your heart strings” stated club president Steve Thornton. The race day itself will consist of heat and feature races in four divisions on the ice. Following the racing, the action will move to the Cecil Bay Pub and Grill in downtown Cecil for the trophy presentation. There will also be paddle wheel raffles to raise additional money. Supporters of this event include Cecil Bay Pub and Grill, Jenda Trucking and Excavating of Cecil, Bobby and Robins Elbow Room of Cecil, K and Spool Tech and Spa Repair, Van Straten Auto Service of Shiocton, Buss Chevrolet of Shawano, Kids in Motion Child Care Center of Green Bay, and Green Valley Service Center of Green Valley.
