Once again, Billy Balog, and his B Squared Motorsports crew, walked away from his IRA foes collecting IRA race number three for the year, increasing his points lead, and showing why he is now known as Super Billy.
Twenty two Interstate Racing Association combatants took starter Jim Barr’s green flag and the battle started with Donny Goeden taking the early lead. Scott Biertzer took the lead from Goeden on lap four and was running out front until disaster struck the third generation driver. Biertzer was attempting to lap Scott Young when they got together ending Biertzer’s chance for win number two forcing both Biertzer and Young to the back.
This caution with eleven laps to go gave the front running spot to Balog. Balog was on cruise control and sped away to a straight away win over second place finishing Scotty Neitzel piloting the Rick Lemanski prepared 2W. Ironically these two started side by side in row four and are one and two in the Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts season long standings. Third place went to Tommy Sexton Jr. in the Fore-Play Racing 83D. Fourth place belonged to early leader Goeden in Bob Walldon’s 11 finishing out the top five was Mike Reinke in the Scott Cowman 02.
John Haeni collected the Osborn and Son Quick Qualifier bonus. Heat races went to Wayne Modjeski in the Fatt-Fro 14AJ, Goeden and Neither. Todd Hepfner collected the B-main in his Hepfner Racing Products 1HRP over 2009 IRA rookie of the year Phillip Mock piloting the Bob Hoyt owned 1M.
Steve Meyer picked up 11 spots in the A-main while Biertzer ran back 14 spots lost in the A-main collision to finish ninth. Biertzer earlier did a tremendous job in saving both life and equipment by steering through a stuck throttle in hot laps stooping without incident.
