After a one week layoff, action returned to Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday night. With 114 cars in the pits, the action saw Brian Peterson take the lead on lap 2 of the Choice Insurance Legend car A Main and hold of a charging Brandon Schmitt for the victory.
There were 18 Choice Insurance Legend cars on hand to do battle. The heat races went to Greg Hartlaub and Mike Mueller.
The feature race got underway with a five car accident up in turn 3, ending the night for heat race winner Hartlaub, all other cars continued. On the restart Dave Fraser jumped out to the lead from the pole position. One lap later saw Brian Peterson slip by Fraser and take the lead. While Peterson had things under control up front, Schmitt was working his way through the field, taking second place on lap 8. The last caution flew for a spinning Joel Wyttenbach on lap 13. When the green flag came back out, Peterson was able to hold off Schmitt for the win, Fraser finished in the third position, followed by Bethany Wyttenbach and Mueller recovered from being a part of the first lap accident to finish in the fifth position.
Another strong field of 26 Piggly Wiggly of Beaver Dam Grand Nationals was on hand. The 3 heat races were taken by Brian Gerber, Paul Todd, and Don Sorce Jr. The B main was won by Dan Sorce over Larry Zirbel and Brian Henry.
The A Main got underway with Dan Schumacher taking the point from outside the front row. The yellow flag flew on lap number 2 for a 6 car accident in turn 2. After two more quick cautions on lap 2 and 3, the action saw Roger Lee take the lead on lap number 4 from Schumacher and win his second A Main of the season. Behind Lee, it was the Sorce family moving through the field. Will Sorce moved from twelfth starting position to finish second , D. Sorce Jr. came from the back after being in the lap 2 accident to take third, followed by Schumacher and Dan Sorce who started sixteenth and finished in fifth.
A field of 15 NAPA Auto Parts Street Stocks saw Brandon Riedner and Robbie Bord capture the 2 heat races.
The A Main saw Craig Lepple, substituting for his brother Brent, jump out into the lead from the pole. The action heated up behind Lepple, as Aaron Streblow, Jeremy Schwoch, Jon Schultz and Riedner made their way towards the front. Schwoch got up to second and pressured Lepple up to lap 14, that’s when things started to change behind Lepple very quickly. On lap 15 Schultz got crossed up in turn 4 causing him to cut down a tire, one lap later Riedner had the motor let go coming down the front stretch, bring out the caution. On the restart, Schwoch and Streblow dropped several positions, with Justin Brown and Charlie Pinkalla moving into second and third. Lepple had enough to hold on for the victory followed by Brown, Pinkalla, Streblow recovered for fourth and Adam Broehm came home in the fifth spot.
There were 10 Performance Motorsports Sport Mods in attendance. The heat race was taken by Dustin Jackson.
The A Main saw Jackson lead lap number one. Zeke Bishofberger over took Jackson for the lead on the second lap. Bishofberger continued to hold the lead through the multi-caution event. The last restart saw Bishofberger lead over Jeff Steenbergen, Brian Besaw and Jeff Schmuhl. The last lap saw Bishofberger and Steenbergen get together going down the back stretch with Bishofberger spinning into the infield. Besaw inherited the lead and took the victory, Schmuhl came in second, Steenbergen held on for third, Jackson was fourth and Ray Keyser came home in fifth spot.
The Mid State Equipment Badger Midgets again joined the action. Travis Berryhill set quick time honors with a lap of 14.583 seconds. The heat races were won by Scott Hatton and Davey Ray.
The A Main saw Ray jump into the lead from the pole position with Hatton and Berryhill in tow. The top 3 would remain unchanged through the first 15 laps. The caution would then come out for the spinning Jason Dull. On the restart Ray would again hold of the challenge of Hatton, and take the win, Mike Hess would slip past Berryhill on lap 17 and take third, Berryhill would finish fourth and Brandon Waelti would finish fifth. Thirty-One Weld Specialty Supply Modifieds challenged the tacky third mile oval. The four heat races were won by Mitch McGrath, Jeremy Christians, Mike Conn, and Jared Siefert. The first of two B Mains was won by Don Scheffler over Jay Schraufnagel, and the second B Main was won by Tim Lemirande over Dave Schoenberger.
The A Main saw Mike Mueller take the lead from his front row position. The second lap saw Brian Crapser move around Mueller for the lead. The caution came out on lap 5 and it involved the cars of Andrew Araco, Lemirande, Christians and Conn. On the restart Crapser continued to lead, a great battle was going on for positions two through six. The cars involved were Siefert, Eddie Lemay Jr., Craig Priewe, Scheffler and Kyle Kudick. On the restart, after a lap 13 caution, Priewe moved by Crapser on the outside and the 2009 Modified Track Champion lead the rest of the way to take the win. Crapser would come home in second, Lemay Jr. would finish in third, Siefert would take fourth and Scheffler from the B Main would finish in fifth and Kudick would take sixth.
The racing action will continue next Saturday night with another 5 division night of racing, with the first race hitting the track at 6:30.
