After a one week hiatus, racing action returned to Shawano Speedway Saturday night with Nick Anvelink proving too much for the WISSOTA Late Model field as he won his first feature of the year. A.J. Diemel won his second FASTRAK Late Model feature of the year. The IMCA Modified feature was won by Brandon Czarapata, while Rod Snellenberger won his third IMCA Stock Car feature of the year. Clint Forstner won his second IMCA Northern SportMod feature.

Craig Bartz jumped out to the quick lead over Troy Springborn, Mark Mitchell, Jim Rychtik and Justin Ritchie in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Ritchie grabbed the fourth spot on the second lap. By lap five Springborn pulled up to Bartz’s rear bumper while Nick Anvelink joined the top five. Over the next several laps Springborn applied heavy pressure on Bartz for the lead while Anvelink gradually made his way through the top five. Using the high groove, Anvelink caught Bartz and Springborn midway through the race. He quickly drove around both of them to take the lead. A caution came out a couple laps later slowing the action. Anvelink began pulling away from the field on the restart, leaving Springborn, Mitchell, Ritchie and Rychtik to scramble for position. It was all Anvelink at the end, as he cruised to the win.

Eric Scribner led the first lap of the IMCA Modified feature before Brandon Czarapata grabbed the top spot. Jerry Wilinski also worked his way by Scribner a couple laps later, with Aaron Milavitz and Eddie Muenster rounding out the top five. By the conclusion of the sixth lap, Milavitz fell from the top five.

Midway through the race Czarapata had built himself a small but comfortable lead with Wilinski, Muenster, Jason Czarapata and Scribner following. It stayed that way until five laps remained when Brad Rohloff, running the high-side, got by Scribner for fifth place. Rohloff also passed Jason Czarapata for the fourth spot before the conclusion of the race, but there was no denying Brandon Czarapata as he drove to the victory.

Mitchell Stankowski took the top spot from Devin Snellenberger on the second lap of the IMCA Stock Car feature. Stankowski led the next several laps while Justin Jacobsen, Barry Van Straten and Greg Gutt battled for the third spot. Stankowski maintained the lead after a lap seven restart only to lose it to Devin Snellenberger four laps later.

With eight laps remaining, Devin Snellenberger, Jacobsen and Rod Snellenberger pulled away from the field and raced in a pack. With both Snellenbergers side by side, Jacobsen decided to try to make it three wide entering turn three, but spun in the process, bringing out the caution. Rod Snellenberger took the lead from his son Devin on the restart and never looked back, making it a hat trick of wins at the Speedway in 2010. He was followed by Devin Snellenberger, Dan Michonski, Shawn Wagner and Stankowski. Several cautions plagued the first few laps of the FASTRAK Late Model feature. On a lap four restart Brett Swedberg maintained the lead over Jeff Curtin, Joel Bennett, Justin Hirt and A.J. Diemel. As Swedberg built himself a small lead over the next several laps, Diemel began his charge to the front. By the time half the race was in the books Diemel found himself in the runner-up spot.

Diemel quickly closed the gap on Swedberg and drove around him on the outside in turns three and four to take the lead with eight laps remaining. He pulled away from the field over the remaining laps of the race and took the win over Swedberg, Curtin, Bennett and Hirt.

In the IMCA Northern SportMod feature Chad Guyette took the lead on the second lap with Joey Taycher, Johnny Whitman, Dave Stoffer and Troy Jerovetz following. Several cautions plagued the race over the next several laps. Guyette maintained his lead after a lap eight restart but began receiving heavy pressure for the top spot from Whitman. The two swapped the lead a couple of times, but Guyette was able to gather it back and take control of the top spot.

Guyette would be challenged again for the lead with only a couple laps remaining, this time by Clint Forstner. With two laps remaining they raced side by side with Forstner taking the lead from Guyette. Forstner held off Guyette the final lap to take the win. They were followed by Whitman, Jerovetz and Tracy Wassenberg.

The speedway will resume its season, Saturday, May 22, with the racing action getting underway at 6 p.m.
