Forstner Scores A Double Win & Two In A Row For Giese

By: Randy Van Hoof Jan. 16, 2010
What a Beautiful day on “Lake Speed” with the temperature at 30 degrees at race time and the bright sunshine it was an ideal race day. And that sun was shinning on two of the racers. Clint “Chucky” Forstner jumped into a FWD Studded car for the first time and scored a clean sweep. Then later in the day put on a show in his regular ride and swept the RWD Non-Studded class. In the only other class running, the FWD Non-Studded, saw first year driver B.J. Giese make it two in a row.

First feature of the day was the FWD Studded class with six cars taking the green. This was a hard fought battle with the 6 of Alan Gast taking the lead from his inside front row starting spot with pressure from Daryl Erickson in the 45E. With Dallas Kralovetz a no-show for the day it was prime time for a new winner and a chance to tighten the points. Clint “Chucky” Forstner starting at the back as he was a new entrant to this class and the heat winner had to work his way to the front. On lap eight on the twelve lap feature he powered his way around Erickson on the outside to take the lead and was never challenged from there. Second went to Erickson with Gast coming home third.

FWD Studded feature was next to roll on the ice. Josh Jolitz found himself on the pole in the 13 and his dad Jeff stating in the fourth spot. Josh had a little problem on the start and was already back to mid-pack coming out of turn two. As the other drivers battled for position farther back the 40 of first week driver Cody Bierman made his way to the front for the first few laps as last weeks winner B.J. Giese was working his way to the front to do battle. Once Giese got to the front he wasted no time to get to the point and from there Jeff Jolitz pressured B.J. for three laps but could not keep pace with the 30V. Giese making two wins a row followed by Jeff Jolitz and Gusty Grahl.

The RWD Non-Studded class was again the class of the day with thirteen drivers taking to the high speed ice. Actually with the nice sunny day mad for some more slippery ice, it that is possible. This was a heated battle for the first four laps as “Chucky” was making his way to the front after starting mid-pack because of problems and a sub-par finish on opening day. But today he would not be denied as he battled his way to the front on lap five. From there on he was never challenged and with no cautions or red flags he just checked out. In the closing laps his only challenge was the lapped traffic. When the double checkers waved he had lapped the field all the way up to third place. Following Forstner at the end was the 75 of Justin Kraeger and Travis Verg third in the 9

Racing continues every Saturday at 1:00pm through February. Special benefit race for Reed Luepke, four year old boy that has leukemia, is scheduled for the 30th. That will also be our annual “Media Day” with some local media people and celebrities racing a special race.
