VANDEHEI, CURTIN, AND MICHONSKI NET FIRST WINS

After three weeks of rain, Mother Nature decided it was time to race. Tim VanDeHei, Dan Michonski, and Jeff Curtin each picked up their first feature wins of the year. Matt Oreskovich won his second race in a row, while Terry Anvelink also won his second feature of the season.

In the WISSOTA Late Model feature Terry Anvelink ran the outside groove of the track to quickly power his way out in front of the rest of the field. Terry’s son, Nick, tried to play the role of the spoiler moving from his seventh starting position into second in just a few laps. Terry held off his son to score his second win of the year.

Tim VanDeHei was finally able to put his early season bad luck behind him as he went wire-to-wire to win the IMCA Modified feature. VanDeHei turned back the challenges of Tim Jorgenson and Brad Rohloff to win his first of the year. After the race Jorgenson denied a claim attempt by Paul Thorpe disqualifying him from the event.

Jeff Curtin showed the dominant form of a few years ago as he cruised to victory in the Fastrak Late Model feature. Joel Bennett kept Curtin in his sights but never was close enough to make a challenge for the lead.

The IMCA Stock feature was a battle to the end. In the early stages rookie Mike Schmidt raced to the lead and looked strong. On lap eight, Rod Snellenberger moved into the top spot. Snellenberger began to pull away just a bit as Schmidt, had his hands full with Alan Gast, Dan Michonski, Greg Gutt, Mitch Stankowski, Shawn Wagner, and Mike Asenbrener. On lap fifteen Michonski moved into second and began to close in on Snellenberger. On the seventeenth lap, Michonski, pulled even with Snellenberger in turn three. Snellenberger continued to lead though. On lap eighteen the two continued to race side by side. On the final lap Michonski pulled ahead by half a car length. Entering turn three Michonski went high with Snellenberger pulling even on the inside. The crowd came to its feet as the pair came off turn four door to door. Michonski would win the drag race to the finish.

Les Yaeger led the early stages of the IMCA Sport Mod feature before Matt Oreskovich maid the pass for the lead. In the late going, Oreskovich held off Jason Guyette to win his second feature in a row.
