Wyttenbach Wrestles Win From Schmitt at Beaver Dam Raceway

by Kurt Gilhart
Beaver Dam Raceway resumed racing action after a one week layoff due to rain. In the Choice Insurance Legend Cars, Joel Wyttenbach came home with the A Main victory. Rodney Mundt paced the field for the first lap, before spinning to the infield on lap 2, handing the lead to Wyttenbach, who had started in the eighth starting position. Wyttenbach would continue to lead, until lap 8 when Brandon Schmitt would go underneath Wyttenbach and take a slight advantage. The two would race side by side with Wyttenbach up high and Schmitt down low. Wyttenbach would take the lead on lap 12, only to have Schmitt regain the lead a lap later. Schmitt would surrender the lead to Wyttenbach on lap 15 and Wyttenbach would go on to the victory. Joe Johnson came home third followed by Eric Barth and Dallas Ross.

The heat races were won by Schmitt and Barth.

The Weld Specialty Supply Modifieds had 21 cars in attendance. The A Main would see Will Sorce jump out to the lead followed by Noah Schepp, Matt Rechek, and Dave Schoenberger. The race would run that way until lap 13 when Rechek would get together with the lapped car of Ed Blaine. At the same time, Schoenberger would retire from the event. On the restart that put Mitch McGrath up to third. He would waste very little time, as he used the high side to get around Schepp and Sorce and take the lead. Jeremy Christians and Aaron Rake would go three wide down the back stretch to get around Sorce for second and third. At the stripe it was McGrath, Christians, Rake, Sorce and Schepp finishing in the fifth spot.
The heat races were won by Don Scheffler, McGrath and Rechek.

The NAPA Street Stocks had a good field of 17 cars on hand. Aaron Streblow would pace the first eight laps of the A Main. Streblow running the high side would see his lead go away as Brandon Riedner passed him on the low side coming out of turn 4 to complete lap 9. With Riedner out front; there were two great side by side battles behind him. Jerry Winkler and Streblow battled for the second position and Trevor Schmidt and Brian Vinney Jr. were trading the fourth position. Schmidt and Vinney swapped the position four times over the last seven laps. In the end it was Riedner taking the win, Winkler came home in second, Streblow would drop out on lap 18 giving Schmidt third, Vinney Jr. finished fourth and Kelly Brown took fifth.
The heat races were won by Jon Ashcraft and Riedner.

The Piggly Wiggly Grand Nationals saw Kenny Richards take his second consecutive victory. Richards started in the seventh position, but quickly moved up to the second spot behind the leader Todd Ascherien, on lap four. Two laps later Richards slipped under Ascherien in turn 2 and would take the lead. Richards would go on to take the victory, holding off a hard charging Jeff Steenbergen who settled for second, Ascherien finished third, Roger Lee fourth and Tim Thompson rounded out the top five.

The heat races were won by Richards, Tommy Moore, and Don Sorce Jr.

The Performance Motorsports Sport Mods saw Zeke Bishofberger remain undefeated, as he picked up A Main number eleven. Randy Krueger paced the field for the first lap, before Adam Pugh would go to the high side and take the top spot. Bishofberger would use the inside groove to get past Aaron Muhle and Krueger for the second position. Pugh opened up a straightway lead and it looked like Bishofberger would have his toughest test yet in bringing home the victory, but on lap 8 Pugh would slow as he went down the back stretch, handing the lead to Bishofberger. From there Bishofberger would go unchallenged for the victory, followed by Muhle, Krueger, Matt Bedker and Jeff Schepp.

The heat races were won by Bishofberger and Chris Piquette, in the car normally driven by Kevin Reed.

There are just two nights remaining in the 2011 season. The Legend Car points show Joe Johnson with a 2 point lead over Eric Barth. The Grand Nationals has Jeff Steenbergen leading by 8 markers over Kenny Richards with Tommy Moore 12 points back. Next Saturday night, it will be Miller night at the races. First race scheduled to start at 6:30.
