Madison International Speedway News - 09.22.09

By John Wells

It's time for the third annual MIS Fall Classic this Friday and Saturday at Madison International Speedway.

Seven Divisions on Track for Friday Night

The pit gates will open at Noon on Friday with practice starting at 2:00 PM. We will be rotating divisions all afternoon long before starting qualifying at 5:00 PM.

Late Models, Area Sportsman, Hobby / Pure Stocks, Bandits, Legends, International Four Cylinders, and Short Trackers will all be in action. We are going to try to group divisions together in the pits if possible. I would recommend arriving early since the pits will be crowded.

Qualifying and qualifying races will take on a new look in 2009. All cars will compete in a dash or qualifying race this year.

In all divisions except the Late Models the fastest eight cars will compete in an eight lap "Dash" with the finishing positions used for determining the starting lineup in the feature.

Odd and even qualifiers will be held for the remaining cars with their finishing positions also playing an important part in determining the feature lineup.

If there are more than twenty cars in a division two qualifying races will be held in addition to the "Dash". If there are between 13-19 cars one qualifying race will be held plus the "Dash". If there are twelve or fewer cars in a division only one qualifying race will be held.

The fastest twelve cars in the Late Model division will automatically make the feature and will run in a six car, six lap "Dash". Finishing positions in the two "Dash" events will be used to determine the feature lineup.

All other cars will run in odd and even qualifiers with the top six cars from each qualifier advancing to the feature.

If there are more than 30 cars in the division a 20 lap semi-feature will be held for the non-feature cars.

The same format will be used for the Saturday night events except for the Mid American Stock Car Series.

Saturday Night is Right at MIS
Seven divisions will be on the track on Saturday night with Late Models, Area Sportsman, Hobby / Pure Stocks, Bandits, and Legends joined by the USST Super Trucks and Mid American Stock Car Series.

Pit gates will open at Noon with practice starting at 1:00 PM and qualifying slated to begin at 4:00.

Racing starts at 6:00 PM with a similar format to Friday night being followed for the five divisions racing both nights.

The 2009 season will come to a close with Joe's Trailer Race on the "Ring of Fire."

A rain date has been set for Sunday afternoon for the Saturday night events.

A complete schedule is available at our website.

Fall Classic Champions

Will there be any repeat feature winners this year? Last year late model features wins went to Ross Kenseth and Jason Hicks, Mike Heelein won the Area Sportsman, Jimmy Hansen and Alex Arelano won in the Legends, Bobby Selsing Jr. won the Hobby / Pure Stocks, Rodney Mundt the International Four Cylinders, Aaron Rude the American Short Trackers, and Andy Jirik the USST Super Trucks.

Some of these drivers will be back to defend their titles while others have moved on to other divisions or aren't able to make it to MIS. Winners will be featured on the banner on our website.

Bonus money to overall winners in the Late Models and Area Sportsman has been put up based on combined feature finishes. Thanks to Quest Industrial from Monroe who is sponsoring the Area Sportsman bonus.

Our track champions will be here with the exception of Max McNamara who is running a national qualifier for the Legends.

Happy Birthday Austin Wells

Happy 13th birthday to my number one assistant Austin Wells. Austin is typically helping out wherever we need help so if you see him on Friday say "Happy Birthday." I couldn't do this without you Austin.

Hope to see all of you at MIS this weekend. Let's hope for great weather and close out the 2009 season with a bang!

John Wells
