SEVEN CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE DECIDED AT THE 40TH ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST RACE WEEKEND

WEST SALEM, WI (Tuesday, September 22, 2009) – With the 19 divisions competing over the four days at the 40th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI, six of those will decide their 2009 Champion. Two champions will be crowned on opening night, three on Saturday night and one on Sunday afternoon.

The La Crosse Speedway’s North Country Contractors Sportsmen will come into the opening night of action with six drivers within 100 points for the championship. Jes Tenner of Melrose, WI has a 24-point lead over Rick Schermerhorn of Westby, WI. Randy Humfeld of Chaseburg, WI is only 38 points behind the leader with John Olson of Sparta, WI in fourth sitting 77 points back. Jimmy Glister of West Salem, WI is in fifth, 91 points back with Dan Glister also from West Salem in sixth only 97 points behind Tenner. The Sportsmen championship will be decided in a 20-lap feature on Thursday night, October 8th.

Only 67 points separate the top-six in the La Crosse Speedway’s United Auto Supply Thunderstox division. The top-four drivers all hail from Sparta, WI with Jason Stark leading the way with 1013 points. Adam Moore is only 13 points behind Stark in the standings with Harley Jankowski in third only 51 points back. Brad Warthan is in fourth sitting 56 points behind the leader. Josh Inglett of La Crosse is in fifth only 62 points behind and Jason Bolster of Sparta is in sixth and is 67 points back. A 15-lap feature on Thursday night will determine their 2009 track champion.

Chris Eggleston will bring his point lead over Eddie Hoffman to Oktoberfest for the ASA Late Model North Series season finale on Saturday, October 10th. Hoffman, the 2007 ASALMS North Fest Winner and three-time Oktoberfest Race Weekend Champion, is only 40-points behind the Erie, CO driver. Josh Nelms is in third only 152 points behind with Joey King in fourth sitting 153 points behind Eggleston. Leading rookie contender Ross Kenseth, who won their last event at Owosso Speedway, is in fifth only 208 points back. The ASALMS North will be competing in a 100-lap feature event on Saturday night.

Kenseth will be doing double duty on Saturday at Oktoberfest as he is the current point leader in the BRP Big-8 Series. The third generation driver has won three of their five events this season. Their next event will be on Saturday, October 3rd at the National Short Track Championships at Rockford Speedway then they will have their season finale at Oktoberfest for a 48-lap feature event. Currently, Kenseth has a 72-point lead over defending Big 8 Series Champion Jeremy Miller with the two events remaining. Kenseth is also the defending Oktoberfest Big 8 Series winner.

The Mid-American Stock Car Series has three events remaining on their 2009 schedule with their championship being decided in a 30-lap feature event on Saturday night. They will be competing this weekend at Madison International Speedway’s Fall Classic then a week later on Sunday, October 4th at the National Short Track Championships at Rockford Speedway before coming to Oktoberfest. Currently Paul Neisius of Hastings, MN has a 30-point lead over Bill Prietzel from Richfield, WI in their standings. Mark Pluer of Brookfield, WI is in third, 87 points back.

Only 240 points separate the top-five with two events remaining in the American Speed Association Midwest Tour. 2007 ASAMT champion Nathan Haseleu currently holds a 61-point lead over Steve Carlson in the standings with two events remaining. Chris Wimmer is in third only 137 points behind with Tim Schendel in fourth sitting 194 points back. Jonathan Eilen rounds out the top-five only 240 points back. The ASAMT will be competing at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN this weekend before coming to Oktoberfest where they will be qualifying and having their qualifying races on Saturday, October 10 and their championship will be decided on Sunday, October 11th in a 100-lap feature event.

And finally, the United States Super Truck Northern Series will decide their 2009 champion in a 25-lap feature race on Sunday afternoon. John Wood will be looking for his second straight title but is facing some strong competition from Todd Lockington who is only 32 points back from the veteran truck driver. Butch Mierendorf and Jerry Wood are tied for third only 88 points back. The USST North division will be competing at Madison International Speedway this weekend before coming to Oktoberfest to decide their championship.
