The sound of roaring engines will fill the air at Rockford Speedway this Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Pepsi presents the 62nd Season Opener Saturday night April 25 featuring the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series while Sunday afternoon will play host to the rescheduled 32nd annual Spring Classic highlighted by the BRP Big 8 Late Models in the SPYDER 108 and Mid-American Stock Car 50.
Newly crowned Rockford Speedway Champion Jerry Gille will begin his quest for a repeat Saturday night under the lights versus top NASCAR Stanley Steemer Late Model competitors including Ricky Bilderback, Alex Papini, Jon Reynolds, Jr and Tim Noble amongst others. Spectator Gates open at 5 with qualifying at 6:05 and the first race at 7:07pm. All four NASCAR weekly divisions will battle on the high banks to kick off the Saturday night season, new drivers, new cars, new paintjobs, new excitement. Then on Sunday afternoon, the 32nd annual Spring Classic will take center stage after a one week delay. Last week saw 38 Big 8 Late Models take the track during practice with nearly 20 Mid-American Stock Cars in attendance. Spectator gates will open at 11am with qualifying at 11:15 and the first race at 1pm. The Mid-American Stock Cars will contest a 50 lap feature while the BRP Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet will headline the event with the SPYDER 108 lap feature.
