Deery Series headlines Memorial Day show at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (May 23) – A racing tradition continues on Monday, as the Deery Brothers Summer Series headlines the Memorial Day special at Boone Speedway.

IMCA Late Models take to the track in a $2,000 to win main event, in the fifth stop of the 2009 tour. IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks complete the May 25 program.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 3 p.m. Hot laps are at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 5 p.m. Pit passes are $25; admission to the grandstands is $15 for adults and $5 for kids. More information is avail able from promoter Robert Lawton at 515 987-1220.

Seven different drivers have won Memorial Day Deery races at Boone since the first holiday event was contested there in 2001. Terry Neal of Ely has won two of those late-May features. The defending race winner is Tom Darbyshire of Morning Sun.

Thirty-one previous Late Model tour races have been held at Boone, 20 of them in conjunction with the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.

Gary Webb of Blue Grass leads all drivers with four Boone checkers. Five-time Deery champion Jeff Aikey of Waterloo, currently tied with Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, Ill., for the top spot in the current standings, is a three-time winner.
