“Tim(Olson, ASAMT President) and I are ecstatic about having our opener at Dells Raceway Park. With all the renovations that Joe Graziano and Lance Fielitz have put into the facility its an honor that they invited us for the first race,” Steve Einhaus, ASAMT Vice-president stated. “DRP has a rich history as the place to be for Super Late Models in the spring and with the central Wisconsin location, fans are going to see the best drivers in the country come together and put on a great classic short track battle.”

The event was put together by ASAMT and Dells Raceway Park officials, “As an ASA Member Track, its important to us at DRP to provide our fans with the finest entertainment in the country. This three race series with the ASA Midwest Tour will bring America’s finest short track racers directly to central Wisconsin and provide our fans with a "can't miss" opportunity. We want this event to be the top racing event of the year for many years to come and we are certain it will all begin right here on Saturday April 25,” Joe Graziano, DRP co-owner said. “Race for the Gold represents the beginning of a new tradition for the best late model drivers in the region. We at DRP are thrilled to play a role in this exciting new series.”

“We wanted something attractive to the racers and exciting for the fans. The Race for the Gold will give our fans something to look forward to and allow them to attend an event that they can be a part of by keeping score of their favorite drivers and watching it come down to a nail biting last event in September,” Einhaus remarked. “For the drivers, its all about the prize and of course the tough competition that they face ahead of them. All three events will be exciting to watch.”

Along with the $4,000 in pure gold to the overall series winner, officials have also created a bonus of $1,000 to the driver who receives the highest points that they can accumulate from the last chance races at all three events. Drivers who compete in the last chance race and do not advance to the feature will receive points towards this bonus.

Each event in the three race series will consist of a 125-lap feature with a break at lap 75. The top-18 from qualifying will automatically advance to the feature field with an inversion of eight(8) plus the roll of a one die. Positions 19-24 will transfer from the 30-lap last chance race(s). Positions 25 & 26 are awarded to the highest non-transferring cars from the last chance race that were also in the top-20 of 2008 ASAMT and DRP points. The Bronze race will pay $3,000 to the winner and $600 to start.

The track will be open for ASAMT competitors on Friday, April 24 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday, the pit gates open at 10:00 a.m. with practice beginning at noon.
