Salt Lake City, Utah-April 25, 2009. The threat of rain could not stop the wheel-to-wheel racing action at Rocky Mountain Raceways’ 2009 Super Oval Season Opener.
“We are very excited to get the 2009 oval season started, last year was one of our best seasons and we look forward to having another great season of racing,” said Doug Binstock, General Manager for Rocky Mountain Raceways.
Oval Classes that ran in the Super Oval Season Opener included USAC Sprints, Maverik Modifieds, Hornets, Super Stocks, Figure 8 Trains and Western States Equipment Figure 8 Cars.
“It feels good to be back here, I look forward to building another car and going after the championship,” said Mike Thiemig, the 2008 Hornet Champion, who finished 5th in the Hornet race tonight.
The night’s winners included Mike Murgoittio (Sprint), Nick Parker ( Maverik Modifieds), Joshua Murray (Hornets), and Mike Wade (Super Stocks).
“I was not expecting to win the first race of the season. Tonight has been action-packed,” said Nick Parker, the Maverik Modifieds winner of the night. Parker, the 2005 Maverik Modified Champion, hopes to be the champion again this year.
Unfortunately Sprint car driver Jimmy Waters was unable to finish the final race after hitting the wall during the first lap. Waters came in third last year for the 2008 oval season.
“Rocky Mountain Raceways is great family entertainment in this economy, Binstock said. “You get a fun time, at a great price.”
In its thirteenth year, Rocky Mountain Raceways also hosts oval racing, motocross racing, monster trucks and drifting.
Rocky Mountain Raceways’ next events include the Street Legal Series # 2 (May 1), Tint & Accessories Midnight Drags (May 1), and the Plaza Cycle Motocross Park Race #2 (May 1).
