A warm and muggy night of racing saw Don Scheffler take home the $1000 first place check Saturday night at Beaver Dam Raceway. Taco Bell of Beaver Dam/Watertown, put up the extra money and Scheffler took the lead on lap number two of the 25 lap A Main, and held off a hard charging Craig Priewe to take home the big money.
Thirty-eight Weld Specialty Supply Modifieds checked in to do battle for the $1000 first prize. The heat races were won by Jared Siefert, Scheffler, Jeremy Christians, and Mike Mueller. The B Mains saw Dave Schoenberger, Nick Firari and Dean Maurer come home with the wins.
The Modified A Main saw Chris Piquette lead the first lap from his 3rd starting position. Scheffler would take the lead one lap later. While Scheffler would lead, a good battle was brewing between Tim Lemirande, Brian Crapser, and Jeremy Christians for positions 2-4. A caution on lap 19 brought the cars of Priewe, who started 20th and Siefert who started 21st into the mix. Three quick cautions flew over the next two laps, but on lap 22 Priewe made his move to second, only to have Scheffler hold him off at the finish. Christians would end up third, followed by Siefert and Lemirande in the fifth position.
The NAPA Autoparts Street Stocks saw Jeremy Schwoch come home victorious in the heat race.
Jon Schultz jumped to the lead from his front row starting position. He led the first eleven laps, while Schwoch, Aaron Streblow and Robert Maule battled for positions 2-4. A caution came out on lap ten, and on the restart Maule who was running the low groove, was able to take the lead from Schultz, for one lap before Schultz passed him back on the high side. Schultz would go on to the victory, followed by Streblow, Schwoch, Maule and Brent Lepple rounded out the top 5.
The Performance Motorsports Sport Mods had Kenny Richards and Jeff Schmuhl winning the heat races.
The A Main got underway with Zeke Bishofberger leading the first 4 laps, before Schmuhl passed him going down the back stretch. Schmuhl would go on to win his second A Main in a row, followed by Brian Besaw, Richards who would recover from a lap seven spin would finish 3rd, followed by Bishofberger and Matt Bedker rounded out the top 5.
There were 19 Choice Insurance Legend cars on hand. The heat races were won by Greg Hartlaub and Warren Ropp.
The A Main got underway with Dallas Ross taking the lead from his fifth starting position. He would lead the first seven laps and then Dave Fraser would take the point on lap eight. Lap nine saw Ross, Fraser, and Brian Peterson race three wide for the lead. Peterson would go to the front on lap ten. Eric Barth would move to second place on lap eleven and slowly started closing in on Peterson. A caution would bring Barth to Peterson’s rear bumper, but in the end Peterson hung on for his second consecutive main event, he was followed to the stripe by Barth, Dan Troyan, Brandon Schmitt, and Fraser.
Twenty-Five Piggly Wiggly of Beaver Dam Grand Nationals were on hand. The first heat race was won by Craig Boettcher, with Alexander Gilhart as the guest flagman for the race. The second and third heats were won by Nick Schumacher and Tommy Moore. The B Main was won by Jim Rhode, with Tim Thompson taking second.
The A Main had Brian Gerber lead the first two circuits. He was passed by Nick Strobbe on the next lap, Strobbe led until lap 5 when Larry Richards went to the front of the class. While Richards was in the lead, Roger Lee was working his way through the field from his 12th starting position. He would pass Schumacher and Gerber for 3rd on lap seven, he would dispose of Strobbe on lap eight for second, and then he would chase Richards for the next 10 laps. On lap 18 a caution came out for the stopped Don Sorce Jr. machine. On the restart, Lee went to the low side and scooted past Richards and went on to take the victory. Richards would hold on for second, followed by Don Schumacher, Nick Schumacher and Thompson would finish in the fifth spot.
Saturday July 3rd has all five divisions on hand once again, with the Badger Midgets joining the program. The first race is scheduled to start at 6:30.
