Navarino veteran Terry Anvelink drove around Brookfield’s Ted Dolhun on a lap three restart to capture the WDLMA 25 lap IMCA modified feature on at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.

A total of 120 cars pulled through the pit gate, including 22 WDLMA late models, 22 IMCA modifieds, 28 stock cars, 21 northern sportmods, 16 sport fours and 11 vintage cars.

Anvelink started in row two and muscled past on the restart. Anvelink kept the lead through a handful of caution periods to capture the win. Kaukauna veteran Pete Parker made some progress, charging from fifth to second within ten laps. Parker hung on for second, followed by former WDLMA late model champion Russ Scheffler of Waukesha, Dolhun and New Berlin’s Bret Sievert rounding out the top five.

Veteran Dean Maurer sweated out several caution periods and a late race surge from Green Bay’s Eddie Muenster to win his first 20 lap feature. Muenster settled for second, followed by Two Rivers’ Kyle Kudick, Green Bay’s Kyle Lentz and Pulaski’s Brad Rohloff.

Green Bay’s John “JJ” Heinz scored a clean sweep of the IMCA stock car class, winning his heat and passing Rick Dix for the lead on lap five to win the 20 lap feature. Dix hung on for second in his best performance of the year, followed by Greenleaf’s Jesse Colwell,

Pulaski’s Rod Snellenberger who battled his way into the show by winning the semi feature, and Saukville’s Roger Johnson.

New Franken’s Brad Lautenbach, coming off a spinal injury suffered one month ago in a racing accident, rebounded to capture the 20 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature. Lautenbach fought off a tenacious Johnny Whitman of De Pere for the victory. Whitman took second, followed by last week’s feature winner Josh Long of Green Bay, Oconto’s Jeremy Cota and Oconto’s Travis Cain.

by Kari Shear-Carlson
NASCAR has the Daytona 500, the NFL has the Super Bowl, MLB has the World Series, and the American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net has the Dixieland 150. This coming Tuesday, August 3rd marks the 29th annual running of the event.

The ASAMT competes on a variety of tracks throughout the Midwest, but the D-shaped 1/2 mile of WIR is probably the most challenging and unique track on the circuit. The traditional Dixieland event has always been held on the first Tuesday in August. Many would ask, “Why would you schedule an event at the beginning of the week?” Well, there are a few reasons why this event has been successful as a Tuesday night event. There are no other paved tracks in the area that compete on a Tuesday night. The event does not conflict with any other WIR events, and last, but not least, NASCAR stars are available to compete.

In the past 28 runnings of the event, 13 different drivers have visited victory lane. Mark Martin (1981, 84), Jim Sauter (1982), Dick Trickle (1983, 87, 90, 91), Butch Miller (1985, 86, 88), Rich Bickle (1989), Steve Holzhausen (1992), Scott Hansen (1993, 99), Joe Shear (1994, 96), Bryan Reffner (1995), Steve Carlson (1997, 98, 2001, 03, 04, 08, 09), Brian Hoppe (2000, 2002), Stephen Leicht (2005), and Kyle Busch (2007).

Come out to MIS this Friday night for Pepsi Night with all five weekly divisions back in action. Make it a goal to bring out some new fans for a night of exciting racing action and good family fun.

Rain, Rain...

Last Friday's Swiss Colony Night was rained out. The decision to make the call was made in the morning when already saturated grounds and the prediction for additional rain combined for a less than favorable forecast for racing.

The early call allows us to notify everyone well in advance. It is never an easy decision to make, but nonetheless, one that has to be made.

ASA Educational Series Awards Night

The awards night for students receiving scholarships to Ohio Technical College in Cleveland, Ohio, is set for Friday, August 6th at Madison International Speedway.

The following is a list of this weekends upcoming events from tracks around the region. It is compiled from schedule, press releases and various postings on the Racing Online Forum. If you would like your event included, please let us know!
