It was the Tuesday after Memorial Day, as dumpster after dumpster roared from Dells Raceway Park, overflowing with a wide variety of shrapnel. Remnants of cars, travel trailers, boats (yes, boats) and even a stray toilet bounced precariously at the top of the pile. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think that the entire facility had been demolished, but thankfully, it was nothing more than the remnants of a great time.

Memorial Day and Labor Day are fast becoming days of distinction at Dells Raceway Park. For the second year running, fans have been treated to an innovative collection of thrill and destruction events dubbed “Memorial Day Mayhem” and “Labor Day of Doom”. “These events are tough to produce, but a lot of of fun” said Race Director Scott Sauerbrei “and judging by the record crowds, we’re doing something right”. DRP reported that well over 3,000 fans enjoyed the most recent show, co-produced by Manthey Salvage of Mauston, WI.

Slinger, Wis., Aug. 30—Dale Prunty edged his brother Dennis in a photo finish to win the Leroy Meats/Kwik Trip 60 Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway for his second super late model feature win of the season.

“That’s the way we dream of it and I’m glad we came out ahead,” Dale Prunty stated after the narrow victory. “I know Dennis (Prunty) is trying for the points, but I race everybody like anybody, “Dale Prunty continued, “Brother or not, we kicked his tail.”

“The first thing I8 0m going to do when I get home is move my transponder forward because I’m sure I had him by at least a half an inch,” Dennis Prunty said, describing his second place to the crowd, “Dale (Prunty) had me and I couldn’t touch him. I got inside of him and I put the car in there where it didn’t belong and at least we came through without wrecking.”

OREGON, WI (Sunday, August 30, 2009) - Many have wondered when it would take place and it finally did today as Matt Kenseth raced in the same event as his 16-year-old son Ross for the first time ever in a late model feature event at Madison International Speedway, an ASA Member Track, in Oregon, WI. The fans in attendance got to see what they hoped to see, both of them racing for a win.

That happened in the first of two 50-lap feature event where father and son competed with the weekly MIS Rockweiler Insulation Late Models. Ross would start on the outside of the front row with Matt starting seventh.

Ross would get the lead over polesitter Zach Riddle at the start of the feature event while Matt would work his way up to fifth by lap three. Ross would pull away to a ten-car length lead over Riddle until lap 16 when Matt would get by Riddle for the second spot and begin to chase down Ross.

Shawano, WI (Aug. 29, 2009) - For the fifth time this season rain forced Shawano Speedway to cancel its racing program Saturday night. That leaves one week of racing left at the Speedway, which concludes its season on Saturday, Sept. 5 during the Shawano County Fair at 6 p.m. Track champions in each division will be crowned at the end of the racing program.

Heading into the final week of racing, 10 points or less separates the top two in the points standings in three of the five divisions.

In the WISSOTA Late Model division, A.J. Diemel holds a 10 point lead over Troy Springborn and an 11 point lead over Justin Ritchie. Springborn and Ritchie tied for the championship last season.

Jared Siefert, who is looking to win his third straight IMCA Modified track championship is eight point ahead of Jason Czarapata and nine points ahead of Brad Rohloff. Eddie Muenster and Tim Van De Hei are still in the mix, 12 points and 17 points back, respectively.

Whether it be on the track or on paper, as the 2009 racing season has wound towards its conclusion, the action at the Rockford Speedway has picked up in intensity. On Bobcat of Rockford Kid's Night at the Speedway, the drama continued at the famed quarter mile. When the dust settled, the points battles remained tight and those who outlasted their foes in the evenings feature events were the ones who truly earned their spoils.

Coming into Saturday night, the points battle in the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models was a historically close battle with only three weeks remaining in the season slate. Defending Track Champion Jerry Gille held a minuscule one-point lead over Seven-Time Track Champion Ricky Bilderback and 26 point lead over Jon Reynolds Jr. The trio would find each other frequently on the Speedway Saturday night, and produce one of the most exciting feature finishes in recent memory.

(West Salem, WI – August 29, 2009) The fans were on their feet as J. Herbst and Steve Carlson raced nose to tail for the last five laps of the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature. When the pair exited turn four Carlson eased his car up next to Herbst’s. Herbst held his ground and crossed the finish line first; a foot ahead of Carlson.

Todd Oliver started on the pole and quickly pulled away from the rest of the pack. Meanwhile the cars 4th through 10th were pushing each other around trying to get as many positions as they could. By the half way point Todd Korish and Herbst had caught up to Oliver and was about to pass him when Emily Sue Steck spun on the front stretch. Tom Thill, Kevin Nuttleman and Tim Nelson also spun as a result. On the restart Korish took over the lead, which he didn’t hold onto for long. Within two laps both Herbst and Carlson had passed Korish. At that point it was a two car shootout. Herbst held off Carlson though another caution up until the last turn of the race. Herbst took the win followed by Carlson. Korish had finished third but was later disqualified. Mike Carlson finished in third.
