Tilleda Thunder On Ice week 6 found temperatures in the low 20s but with the overcast and blustery, snowy day it seemed a lot colder. In the end it was Greg Gutt picking up feature win number 5 of the season. Clint Forstner claiming hi second win. First time out this season, Daryl Erickson and a “Wiley” old veteran Ben Michonski picking up wins.

Week number 5 of Tilleda Thunder On Ice was a special “Media Day” with guest drivers running a special race to help promote the club. It was well received by the fans and the drivers. There were 6 guest drivers competing in RWD non-studded cars. Thank You to those drivers letting the guests drive their cars for this race.

Tilleda Thunder On Ice Week 4 felt like a nice warm spring day after the very cold week last week. It was a very competitive day especially in the RWDNS class as another Michonski found his way to victory lane.
The Outlaw Studded class was up first and with only 2 cars running this week and only 1 FWD studded car in the pits they ran together with the 35Q of Calvin Stueck getting points for his class. The 41 of Craig Wildenberg started inside and the 07 of Mike Schmidt for the 15 lap shootout while Stueck started shotgun on the field. Wildenberg led from the start and never looked back. Schmidt made it interesting during the race as he was able get to Wildenberg’s rear bumper a few times but Craig was up to the challenges and took his second feature win of the season.

Every year when old man winter has inhabited the race tracks of Wisconsin, most people long for the dog days of summer. There is a group of hearty and dedicated racers though, that can't wait for the cold to come and freeze twelve inches of sky blue water. In the winter months the Tilleda Pond becomes known as Lake Speed.
The tiny town of Tilleda barely shows up on most maps (it is located approximately one mile north of highway 29, between Shawano and Wittenberg), but when it comes to ice racing, it is a metropolis. Racing on the Tilleda Pond actually got started in 1976. Originally there was only one division of cars, the rear wheel drive nonstudded class, and sand was actually put on top of the ice to aid in traction. A few years later the rear wheel drive studded class was added to the racing program. The studded cars eventually became the sportsman division at the Shawano Speedway.

Week three of Tilleda Thunder On Ice turned out to one very frigid day as the temperatures barley broke the five degree mark. But as always the racing was very exciting and the hard-core fans that attended got their money’s worth from the thirty one drivers that were checked into the pits.
Cedar Lake Speedway is proud to announce that 2009 brings the return of Winged Outlaw Modifieds to the legendary track. Plans are in place to showcase this unique class four times throughout the upcoming season. Originally debuted in 1984 these cars were the most exciting class at the Cedar Lake Speedway at the time. Winged Outlaw Modifieds were unique to Cedar Lake and sported full sized sprint car wings above the roof and nose wings mounted to the front bumper. During their tenure at the track they boasted high car counts, ultra competitive racing and lap times faster than the late models of their era. 1991 was the last year of the class as they were replaced by the current non-winged modified class at the track the following year.
Cedar Lake Speedway hopes to recreate the same excitement this class brought to the track during the late 80’s. Several drivers have shown interest in fielding a car and the track is actively pursuing more drivers to participate. Drivers will utilize the current Cedar Lake Speedway modified rules and can use any standard sprint car wing along with nose wing. Hydraulic cockpit wing adjusters are not allowed.

Week one of Tilleda Thunder is in the books and a beautiful day greeted the 31 drivers checked into the pits. Bright sunshine and temps in the low 20 made for a great day on "Lake Speed"
First feature up for the day was the wild outlaw RWD Studded class with the 10 of "The Wiley Veteran" Ben Michonski in his Loose Gruff Modified leading the field to the green. On lap one the 07 of Mike Schmidt had the right front go flat and the race was stopped to allow him to change the tire. The race was re-started with the 10 of Michonski on the pole, 07 Monte Carlo of Schmidt in second and the 41 of "Pugs" Wildenberg in his Monte starting last. These three cars can put on a heck of a show as all of them ran in a close group for over half of the race. Michonski started to pull away late in the race. With two to go Schmidt started to put on the heat and they ran side by side. On the final lap coming out of turn four Michonski bobbled and Schmidt was on the outside and on the loud pedal hard and passed Michonski and won by about one car length at the checkered with Wildenberg ending up third. Michonski won the heat.
