By Dennis Thompson

August 13, 1999; Columbus, WI. -  Scott Patrick of Dousman captured the Miller Lite 50 lap late model feature at the Columbus 151 Speedway on Friday night. Patrick thrilled the crowd by using the outside groove to charge to the front after starting in the last row.

Patrick steadily moved up through the pack working down low early in the event, but it was his drive on the outside later in the event that was impressive as he picked off car after car and moved into the lead on lap forty-five. It was the first feature win of the season for Patrick who became the eleventh different driver to win a feature in the division this season.

By virtue of his win, Patrick closed to within thirty-seven points of Mike Langsdorf of Doylestown in the battle for the track championship. Langsdorf also turned in a strong performance as he also utilized the outside groove to move up from the sixth row to finish in second. Rookie John Acker of Spring Green had his best race of the season driving to third. Acker currently is the top rookie driver in the division. Duane Deppe of Waterloo crossed the line in fourth. Mark Miller of Columbus, who started in the fifth row, followed in fifth. Finishing in sixth through tenth were Charlie Yelk of Lake Mills, Andy Tomlinson of Poynette, Bill Retallick of Marshall, Terry Sauer of Waterloo and Randy Breunig of Columbus.

Ron Preskar of Juneau picked up an additional $500 bonus courtesy of Jeche Garage of Juneau and Economy Firewood of Jackson for setting fast time and going on to win the twenty-five lap street stock feature. It was the second win of the season for Preskar who took over the point lead by five points from Dan Howard of Baraboo. Howard drove a strong race and challenged Preskar over the closing laps to finish in second. Will Godding of Cross Plains ran near the front all night and wound up in third. Kevin Anderson of Madison was fourth. Jeni Westergaard of Columbus took fifth.

Jerry Chapman of Juneau led from start to finish to race to his second win of the season in the twenty lap hobby stock feature. Grant Lindner of Poynette followed in second. Third went to Gerry Junget of Rio. Andy Junget of Rio crossed the line in fourth ahead of Ken Scott of Rio.

Ron Schneidewind of Madison posted his second win of the season in the back up division. Dave Moore of McFarland claimed second. Jim Remsik of Madison was third.

Fast times for the evening were turned in by Andy Tomlinson in the late models at 13.464, Ron Preskar in the street stocks at 14.177 and Ken Scott in the hobby stocks at 15.446.

Late model heat race wins were registered by Gary Conner of Ridgeway, John Ovadahl Jr. of Johnson Creek and John Acker. Street stock heat race action saw Fred Strobel of Hartford, Joe Roatch of Stoughton, Jay Spahn of Middleton and Ron Schmitt of Jackson race to wins.
