August 20, 1999; Columbus, WI. - The late model Pepsi Triple 60's Challenge Series Championship Round sixty lap feature at the Columbus 151 Speedway proved up to its billing as the competition was as close and exciting as the whole season has been at the speedway. Emotions ran high as both Terry Sauer of Waterloo and Scott Patrick of Dousman had reason to celebrate while Bruce Havel of Deerfield ended his night with a huge disappointment.

Scott Patrick (#40) put the finishing touches on his second straight Pepsi Triple 60's Challenge Championship, with a second place finish in this evenings main event. Patrick is also attempting to win his second straight Columbus 151 Speedway Late Model title. | |
Bruce Havel jumped into the lead at the start of the event from the pole position. Randy Breunig of Columbus, who was tied for the Pepsi series lead going into the final round, brought out the first caution of the event on lap three when he spun in turn one.
Following the restart the race settled down with Havel in the lead and the drivers in the back working their way through the traffic. The second caution of the event occurred on lap twenty-two when Andy Tomlinson of Poynette drove a little to hard into turn one and made heavy contact with Mark Miller of Columbus.
Havel continued to lead on the restart only to have the caution slow the event for a third time on lap thirty-one for a spin by Bill Retallick of Marshall.
| Terry Sauer (#13) would score his biggest win of the 1999 season when he came home the winner in the final event of this year's Pepsi Triple 60's Challenge. Sauer held back the charge of Scott Patrick for the victory. | ![]() |
As racing resumed Havel continued to lead and Terry Sauer began to mount a strong challenge for the top spot. Sauer worked on Havel lap after lap trying to find a way to move out in front. Charging from back in the pack Scott Patrick and Dean Schultz of Juneau were making steady progress to the front. As Havel and Sauer battled fiercely for the lead, the pair came up on John Ovadahl of Johnson Creek who was running on the tail of the lead lap. As the three raced side by side down the front straight, Ovadahl made contact with Havel that sent Havel into a spin and into the first turn wall with just three laps to go.
With Havel out of the race, the field readied for the restart with Sauer out in front followed by Scott Patrick and Dean Schultz. The three lap dash to the finish saw the trio race under a blanket. Patrick tried the outside while Schultz pressured down low. As they raced to the checkered flag out of turn four it was Sauer who held on for the win over Patrick and Schultz.
With his second place finish, Scott Patrick clinched the Pepsi Triple 60's Challenge Series for the second year in a row. He joins Pete Moore of McFarland as a two time winner of the series. Patrick used finishes of second in round one, third in round two and second in round three to capture the title. He also moved past Mike Langsdorf of Doylestown to take over the lead in the season point standings by twenty-two points.
Andy Tomlinson recovered from the early race incident to finish fourth in the Pepsi championship feature. Tom Lorenz of Madison drove a strong race to take fifth. Finishing in sixth through tenth were John Lamberty of Verona, John Ovadahl Jr. of Johnson Creek, Bill Retallick, Don Gaserude of Fort Atkinson and Randy Breunig. Breunig tied for the Pepsi series lead going into the night wound up third in the series standings.
