Deppe best in in Lates, Howard tops Streets at Columbus 151!

August 26, 1999; Columbus, WI. -  Duane Deppe of Waterloo led from start to finish to win the thirty-five lap late model feature on WIBA-FM Night at the Columbus 151 Speedway on Friday night. It was the second win of the season for Deppe. Bruce Havel of Deerfield pressured Deppe most of the way and finished a strong second. Don Gaserude of Fort Atkinson followed in third ahead of Scott Patrick of Dousman and Mike Langsdorf of Doylestown. Patrick now holds a thirty-one point advantage over Langsdorf in the point standings with only two races remaining.

Duane Deppe (#17) held off his Late Model rivals this evening here at Columbus 151 Speedway on the quarter-mile asphalt oval.   Deppe managed to lead every lap of the 35 lap main event to score the victory. 82799c.jpg (16985 bytes)

Dan Howard of Baraboo raced to his third win of the season in the twenty-five lap street stock feature. Ron Preskar of Juneau moved up through the pack to finish in second. Howard's lead in the point standings remains at forty-three points over Preskar. Dennis Schmidt of Beaver Dam also moved up well to take third. Bob .Jacobs of DeForest drove to fourth. Fifth went to Ron Schmitt of Jackson.

Jay Spahn of Middleton escaped injury after an incident on the front straight in which Spahn rolled his car and slid down the track upside down.

Lincoln Keeser of Jefferson battled most of the way with Gerry Junget of Rio and was able to cross the line first to pick up his second win of the season in the twenty lap hobby stock feature. Dan Schmidt of Watertown followed Keeser and Junget across the line to claim third. Fourth went to Jim Rohrbeck of Portage. Dennis Gaserude of Oregon took fifth.

Mark Remsik of Deerfield drove to his third win of the season in the back up division. Dan Sheldon of Madison was second. Dave Moore of McFarland finished third.

Formula Indy Racing Association feature wins were registered by Dirk Wilker of Madison in the Pro division and by Michael Nelson of Elkhorn in the Pro-Am division.

Fast times for the evening were recorded by Andy Tomlinson of Poynette in the late models at 13.536, Ron Preskar in the street stocks at 14.223 and Andy Junget of Rio in the hobby stocks at 15.587. Dirk Wilker was quick in the Formula Indy cars at 13.977.

Late model heat race victories were scored by Butch Mierendorf of Lake Mills, Duane Deppe and Terry Sauer of Waterloo. Street stock heat race action saw trips to victory lane by Dave Beck of Butler, Clayton Broesch Jr. of Rio, Bob Jacobs and Richard Colvin of Poynette. Dennis Gaserude and Lincoln Keeser won the hobby stock heats. Formula Indy heats went to Neal Gillentine of Sugar Grove, Il. and Jim Chapley of Northbrook, Il.

Butch Mierendorf won the late model semi-feature over Jeff Falbe of Beaver Dam and Tom Lorenz of Madison. Kale Peterman of Juneau claimed the street stock semi-feature. Richard Titus of Jefferson was second. Mark DePorter of Fort Atkinson was third.

In the Ad World spectator races, Robert Tweed of Madison won the four cylinder class while the eight cylinder win went to Tobin Hess of Edgerton.

Next week is Fan Appreciation night, with stock car rides for the kinds here at Columbus 151 Speedway time trials are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. with the first race slated for 7:45 p.m.   Columbus 151 Speedway is a quarter-mile paved oval located on Highway 151, between the towns of Columbus and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Take Exit 111 of Highway 151 just south of Columbus.
