Backup Exhibition race to be held at Columbus 151 Speedway!

October 10, 1999; Columbus, WI. - The Columbus 151 Speedway will hold a Back-up exhibition race on Saturday October 30th, 1999 at 4:00 p.m.

The Columbus Speedway back-up class races in reverse pack style every Friday night during the summer.  When the originally began in 1982 they race one on one.

The interest in the back-up drivers has increased dramatically since Brent Engh of The Capital Times wrote an article on the "Backwards Boys", published on June 24th of this past year.

Jim Hill, a producer with the ABC Network news contacted Columbus Speedway after the article had been picked up by the Associated Press.

On September 10th, the last regular race of the season, the ABC News crew spent the day filming a segment that aired on September 20th.  The final story on World News Tonight hosted by Peter Jennings.

Columbus Speedway was then contacted by Andreas Gutzeit of Munich, Germany.  He was interested in the backwards boys he had seen on ABC.  Gutzeit, Bureau Chief will produce a segment on back-ups that will be seen nationally in the countries of Germany and Hungary.

The German crew of a journalist, 2 cameramen and a sound man will visit Columbus Speedway on October 30th to film and interview the drivers.

The exhibition race will be open to the public FREE of admission.

Columbus 151 Speedway is a quarter-mile paved oval located on Highway 151, between the towns of Columbus and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Take Exit 111 of Highway 151 just south of Columbus.
