Special; Columbus, WI. - Pepsi Triple 60's Challenge Series this coming Friday!
The first major special of the season, the late model Pepsi Triple 60's Challenge Series Round One, will take place at the Columbus 151 Speedway this Friday night. Each round features a sixty lap main event with points accumulated from all three races to determine the series champion. Round two will take place July 16 with the championship round scheduled for August 20.
The drive to the series championship will no doubt be a very competitive one. Past winners of the series include Scott Wimmer, Pete Moore, Chris Weinkauf, Mike Langsdorf, and Scott Patrick. Moore is the only driver to win the series twice. In action so far this season at the speedway there have been four different feature winners with Andy Tomlinson the oniy driver to have two wins. Tomlinson currently leads the season point standings following his win last Friday night. Dean Schultz of Juneau has recorded one win this season and has been running strong through the first part of the season.
Mike Langsdorf dropped to third in the season point standings after occupying the top spot and will be looking to pick up his first win of the season. Terry Sauer of Waterloo was edged at the line by Tondinson in last Friday night's feature and is determined to come back strong for the series. Randy Breunig has been consistent all season long and that could prove to be a major factor over the three race series. Breunig finished in a tie with Jason Erickson for second in the series last year. Defending track and series champion Scott Patrick will also be returning to the field this week after taking last week off to get married.
Time trials are set to begin at 6:15 p.m. with the first race of the evening scheduled for 7:45. The Columbus 151 Speedway is located halfway between Sun Prairie and Columbus on Hwy. 151 at the 111 exit.
