Falbe fast in Late Model feature action at Columbus 151!

July 6, 2001; Columbus, WI. - - Big Wheel Races for the Kids and a Roll over contest put the finishing touches on some great racing action at Columbus 151 Speedway Friday Evening.  "Lightning" Dave Hatton was able to roll his car over the most to win the final event of the evening.

Mark Remsik (#83) beat his brother Jim to the finish line by a couple of feet to earn his first Backup feature of the 2001 season at Columbus 151 Speedway!

Jeff Falbe of Beaver Dam Found his way to a feature victory in the Late Model division for the first time this season. Falbe lead flag to flag in the caution free event. He becomes the eighth different driver in nine weeks
to take top honors in the Late Model division. The only repeat winner being current point leader Gerry Junget of Rio. Falbe also edged closer with this win to fourth place in points currently held by Al Weishoff of Columbus.

Ron Coppernoll of Madison and Craig Henning of Helenville brought the Street Stock main event to the line. As the green flag fell Coppernoll jumped in to the lead. By Lap three Coppernoll had built a lead of a few car lengths and Bret Schmidt of Watertown moved into the second position. The only caution of the race came on lap ten for the spinning Mike Acheson in turns one and two.

On the restart Scott "Chico" Riedner who had worked himself into third before the caution moved to the upper groove and into second, Ron Preskar of Juneau would follow. Three laps later Riedner was working the high side on Ron Coppernoll. The two raced door to door until lap twenty when Riedner slid into the lower groove going into turn one. On the following lap Preskar moved to the outside of Coppernoll but he was not able to hold the position. As they crossed the finish line it was Scott Riedner, Ron Preskar, Bobby Stough Jr., Ron Coppernoll, and Ron Schmitt of Jackson.

In Hobby Stock Feature Action Grant Lindner was the quickest to the checkers. Lead out of the pits by James Schmidt of Jefferson and Dennis Schwark of Sun Prairie the Hobby Stock Finale went caution free. As the field took the green flag Dennis Gaserude moved to the high line making it three wide by turn one.

On lap three Ernie Witte (#02) came out of turn four a little high and slapped the front straight wall, he would pull off of the track a few laps later. By the halfway point Grant Lindner found the lead around the outside of James Schmidt, Gaserude would follow in the second position. By lap fifteen John Remsik of Madison maneuvered around Schmidt for the third position. Gaserude caught Lindner on lap seventeen but ran out of time. As the raced across the line it was Grant Lindner, Dennis Gaserude, John Remsik, James Schmidt, and Lincoln Keeser of Milton.

Jim Remsik of DeForest lead the entire Back-Up division race except the last ten feet. Jim Remsik drifted high coming out of turn four for the checkered flag and brother Mark Remsik of Madison got by underneath for his first win of the season. Bruce Havel of Deerfield finished third as he was on the high side of the second place Jim Remsik and made contact with the front straight wall.  The top five at the line were Mark Remsik, Jim Remsik, Bruce Havel, Matt Wachuta of Brooklyn and Dave Moore of McFarland.

Heat Race victories in the Late Model Division went to Randy Ginter, Al Weishoff of Columbus and Gery Auby of Sun Prairie. In the Street Stocks Ron Preskar and Ed Jackson of Madison registered wins. Ernie Witte and Dennis Gaserude recorded Hobby Stock heat wins.

The quickest qualifying time in the late model division was 13.958 secondsbelonging to Butch Mierendorf of Waterloo. The fastest Street Stock was Scott Riedner with a qualifying time of 14.487 seconds. John Remsik piloted his Oldsmobile at a pace of 15.616 seconds, the quickest for the Hobby Stocks.
