Falbe Fabulous in Late Model Action at Columbus 151!

July 12, 2002; Columbus, WI. - Jeff Falbe of Beaver Dam drove to victory in the 35-lap late model feature on Burger King Night at the Columbus 151 Speedway on Friday night. Falbe jumped into the lead at the start and built a comfortable lead.

Bob Jacobs (#15) won the second of the two main events for Back-up cars this evening, as the Travel Channel was on hand to film the action!

Gerry Junget of Rio, however, moved up from the fourth row and chased Falbe down at about the midpoint of the event. Junget tried to make a move to get by on several occasions but Falbe was up to the challenge and recorded his first win of the season. Falbe is the sixth different winner in the division this season. Following Falbe and Junget across the line was Duane Deppe of Waterloo in his best race of the season. Tim Noble of Janesville also drove a strong race with a fourth place finish. Ed Wolff III of Clyman took fifth.

Dan Schmidt of Watertown picked up his first win of the season in the 25-lap street stock feature. Schmidt is the eighth different feature winner in the division this season. Bret Schmidt of Watertown came from the ninth starting position to finish in second. Don Trush of Sun Prairie followed in third ahead of Randy Padfield of Edgerton. Bob Jacobs of DeForest moved up well to finish in fifth.

Lincoln Keeser of Milton drove from his fourth row starting position to take the lead on lap seven and went on to register his second win of the season in the 20-lap hobby stock feature. Ken Scott of Rio moved up from the back to finish in second. Grant Lindner came from the seventh row to claim third. Early race leader, Larry Moen of Madison, followed in fourth ahead of John Remsik of Madison.

Bill Reynolds of Watertown moved up quickly to take over the lead on the fourth lap and went on to capture the 12-lap bandit feature. It was the second win of the season for Reynolds. Renee Collins of Lake Mills crossed the line in second. Charles Novotny of Mauston came from the back row to finish in third. Charlie Recheck of Beaver Dam drove to fourth. Chris Beine of Slinger came across the line in fifth.

With GRB Entertainment on hand to tape a segment for the Travel Channel titled "The World's Wildest Races", the back up division ran two events. In the first race, Steve Oetzel of Marshall out battled Dave Moore of McFarland to record his third win of the season. Bob Jacobs drove to third ahead of Rick Verdon of Fitchburg and Mark Williams of Marshall. In the second race of the evening for the back ups, Bob Jacobs raced to the win over Rick Verdon and Dave Moore. Steve Oetzel was fourth. Matthew Wachuta of Brooklyn took fifth.

Fast times for the evening were posted by Andy Tomlinson of Poynette in the late models at 13.861, Jim Rohrbeck of Portage in the street stocks at 14.777, Ken Scott in the hobby stocks at 15.218 and Charles Novotny in the bandits at 16.893. Both Scott and Novotny set new track records with their efforts.

Late model heat race victories went to Jeff Falbe and Brian Lind of Stoughton. Street stock heat race wins were recorded by Greg Bowers of Waterloo and Randy Padfield. In the hobby stock division, Larry Moen and Bill Bush of Jefferson claimed the heat race wins. Bandits heats went to Brandon Riedner of Waunakee and Charlie Recheck.

The chain race event was won by Tom Perry, Darrin Miller and Mark Tiedt. Adrian Wesoloski was victorious in the rollover contest.

Racing Action continues this Friday night with the Miller Challenge Race Two. The late model division will race a 50-lap feature. Junior Motorsports will also be in action. There will be a toy toss for kids at intermission.
