Retallick Rolls to Pepsi Triple 60
Victory at Columbus 151! July 26, 2002; Columbus, WI. - Rob Retallick of Deerfield led from start to finish in picking up his second win of the season in the 60-lap late model Pepsi Triple 60's Challenge Race Series Round 2 feature at the Columbus 151 Speedway on Friday night.
Retallick's first win of the season came in the series first round. With wins in the first two rounds, Retallick will be favored to win the series going into the championship round on August 23. Butch Mierendorf of Lake Mills moved up in the later stages of the race to finish in second. Jeff Falbe of Beaver Dam followed in third ahead of Terry Sauer of Waterloo. Al Weishoff of Columbus, who challenged Retallick much of the way, slipped back to finish in fifth. The sixth through tenth positions went to Russ Goodwin of Beloit, Jason Dunn of Sun Prairie, Gerry Junget of Rio, Dean Schultz of Juneau and Don Gaserude of Fort Atkinson. Dean Schultz moved back into the lead in the season point standings with his ninth place finish in the Pepsi feature. Andy Tomlinson of Poynette had the misfortune in his heat of having another car make contact with him, sending him hard into the wall and eliminating him for the evening. After exchanging the lead back and forth four times with Joe Roatch of Stoughton, Dan Schmidt of Watertown took command of the top spot for good on lap nine and went on to record his second win of the season in the caution free 25-lap street stock feature. Schmidt moved into the lead in the season point standings. Roatch drove his best race of the season with a second place finish. Bobby Stough Jr. of Waunakee drove to third. Kevin Anderson of Cottage Grove moved up from the fifth row to cross the line in fourth. Bret Schmidt of Watertown followed in fifth. Bill Bush of Jefferson captured his first win of the season in the 20-lap hobby stock feature. Bush is the sixth different feature winner in the division this season. Lincoln Keeser of Milton drove to second. Jim Wingett of Fall River drove another strong race advancing from the twelfth starting position to finish in third. Terry Wangsness of Whitewater came across the line in fourth. Grant Lindner of Poynette moved up well to take fifth. The event also ran without a caution. Dave Hundley of Rockton, IL drove to his second win of the season in the 15-lap bandits feature. Hundley grabbed the lead at the start and never looked back. Jim Clark of Watertown won the battle for second. Rick Boyce of Marshall finished in third. Allen Petrie Jr. of Sun Prairie charged from the seventh row to take fourth. Brandon Riedner of Waunakee also moved up well by coming from the sixth row to finish in fifth. Mark Remsik of Deerfield regained the lead from Rick Verdon of Fitchburg on lap seven and went on to score his third win of the season in the 8-lap back up race. Verdon finished in second ahead of Dave Moore of McFarland. Bob Jacobs of DeForest crossed the line in fourth. Matthew Wachuta of Brooklyn was fifth. Andy Tomlinson paced the late models in qualifying at 13.882. Justin Schultz of Otsego led the street stocks at 14.655. Hobby stock fast time went to Ken Scott of Rio at 15.419. Allen Petrie Jr. was quick in the bandits at 16.913. Late model heat race victories were recorded by Paul Kisow of Marshall, Chris Kenney of Sun Prairie and Rob Retallick. Bobby Stough Jr. and Dan Schmidt logged street stock heat race wins. Hobby stock heat race action saw Jim Wingett and Ken Scott drive to victories. Bandit heat wins were registered by Brian Paulson of Edgerton and Allen Petrie Jr. Paul Kisow won the late model semi-feature over Patrick Dwyer of Monona and Brian Lind of Stoughton. Ad World spectator race wins were captured by Cheri Hahn in the 4-cylinders, Dale Chitek in the 6-cylinders and Bob Rabe in the 8-cylinders. Racing action continues this Friday night at the Columbus 151 Speedway with the Sylvia A. Sherman Memorial Race. There will be extended features in the late model, street stock and hobby stock divisions. The back ups and Junior Motorsports will also be in action. |
