By Natasha Fabian

September 3, 2004; Columbus, WI. - Don Gaserude vaulted the field from the pole to lead every lap of the 35-lap Late Model feature Friday night at the Columbus 151 Speedway. Russ Goodwin, who made an initial charge on Gaserude had his run slowed on lap two when Ty James and Clayton Braaksma made contact, both heading up the track high into turn one before coming to rest.

Two laps later, Dean Schultz was working on Andy Wendt for sixth when he cut a tire, ending his hope for victory. The track was slick from high humidity in the air combined with fluid and oil dry lay down earlier in the night. John Wasserburger, who started the race sixth fell back early, but worked his way back up to battle Wendt for sixth on lap nine, but also cut a tire and glided into the turn four barrier. Mike Taylor was battling an ill-handling car all night, and he lost the fight on lap 15, spinning into oncoming traffic. Gaserude was able to gain an advantage on the tight field that followed him, the next four cars battling side-by-side for position. On lap 21, second place was decided as Bill Retallick fell into line. Retallick charged on Gaserude, but lapped traffic was becoming an issue for the leaders. The final caution was for Rob Retallick spinning in turn one, creating a green-white-checkered situation, in which Gaserude won over the elder Retallick, Andy Wendt, Goodwin, and Aaron Wilke.

Jim Rohrbeck made a rare appearance at the Speedway to take top honors in the 25-lap Street Stock feature. Rohrbeck took the initial lead from the front row, but Tony Chase held the point for seven laps before Rohrbeck prevailed from the side-by-side competition. The race to watch for several laps was between Kyle Taylor and Randy Padfield battling for third, but a bad push in Padfield's machine gave Taylor an eventual advantage. Only one caution slowed the event, and Rohrbeck was powerful on the restart, never looking back on the field.

Alan Dorn took his second win of the year in the 20-lap Hobby Stock feature. Todd Wright kept Dorn on the move, holding second spot down for fourteen laps before fading back to seventh. Two cautions slowed the field, but the last twelve were a shootout.

Dan Birkett started eighth to take the lead on lap six and go on to win the 20-lap four-cylinder Bandit feature. Brandon Riedner pulled out to the initial lead, but finished the race in sixth. The contest was caution-free and kept the points battle hot, the two dicing for the championship crossing the line first and second. Tina Remsik, who has been a force with which to be dealt all season, experienced problems on her machine on lap thirteen, spinning into the infield on the backstretch. Lapped cars were to Birkett's advantage, as Johnson had to pass them before being able to gain on Birkett, but ran out of laps to fight for the lead.

Tom Gross was the winner of the 8-lap Backup race. Steve Oetzel was a contender all race long, but didn't have enough power to challenge Gross for the point. Oetzel was able to close in on Mark Remsik's point lead, however, Remsik finishing three laps down with mechanical failure.
