Nottestad Nets Moore Memorial Win at Columbus 151 Speedway!
By Natasha Fabian

June 18, 2004; Columbus, WI. - In what was the postponed second night of the annual Summer Rumble contest and also the Dick Moore Memorial event, Scott Nottestad took top honors in the 50-lap Late Model feature race. Having qualified tenth out of the 29 cars present, Nottestad started mid-pack on the feature grid. Fifth-fast qualifier Andy Wendt had a more dense pack of cars to work through en route to the front, but 50 laps was not enough for him to take the lead. Nottestad crossed the finish line first, followed by Wendt, Brent Knight, Ron Bishofberger, and Dean Schultz rounding out the top five.

Craig Henning used the inverted starting lineup to his advantage on his way to winning the Street Stock feature race. Fast time qualifier Bret Schmidt moved through the field fast but was only able to make it up to the second spot before the checkered flag flew. Brandon Riedner, Dustin Ward, and Justin Schultz rounded out the top five. Sisters Rikki and Bobbi Bishofberger have been fan favorites this year, both third generation drivers and rookies in the Street Stock division. Rikki raced entry-level four-cylinder Bandits at the track two years previously, and Bobbi had only a few races in a Bandit car before this season. The sisters race each other hard and always put on an entertaining show.

Dennis Smith Jr., an unfamiliar face to the Columbus 151 Speedway this year won the Hobby Stock feature, to the surprise of many. Nineteen cars started the race in which Smith won by a healthy margin over the closing-in Terry Wangsness.

The two fastest four-cylinder Bandit drivers qualified only 0.005 seconds apart, so a hard fought feature race was inevitable. Travis Schneeberg took home the win, but Brian Paulson was not far behind. Mike Storkson followed Paulson, and Allen Petrie Jr., and Chris Higgins rounded out the top five.

Dave Moore cruised to the win in his Yougo in the reverse-driven Backup race. George Wachuta’s Buick crossed the finish line second, and Mark Remsik was third in the crowd favorite event of the evening.

The Columbus 151 Speedway races Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, four-cylinder Bandits, and Backup cars every Friday night through mid-September. Gates open at 5:00, qualifying is at 6:30 with racing to follow at 8:00 p.m.
