Wilke Walks Up Points Ladder - Wins Late Model Feature!
By Natasha Fabian

July 2, 2004; Columbus, WI. -  For Aaron Wilke, winning the Late Model feature at Columbus 151 Speedway was good deal - one needed to keep him in the tight points race at the quarter-mile asphalt oval. The young, but experienced driver from Waterloo qualified for the event only 0.022 seconds behind fast-time qualifier Andy Wendt. Coming from near the back of the starting grid, Wilke propelled his way by visitors Rich Schumann Jr., Justin Woller, and Brady Liddle and up through the pack of Columbus's top competitors. The win sent Wilke up to second in season point standings, now preparing to make a charge on Andy Wendt's dominating lead.

Randy Padfield rolled his car over on the backstretch two weeks ago, but it
may have only made him faster. He took last week off to repair his ride, but
came back strong citing a win in the Street Stock feature. Not just the feature, but Padfield won his heat race as well. The time off hurt, as he has slipped to tenth in points, but look for him to rise again before the season's end.

Terry Wangsness likes to win, and that's secret to no one. For the first time in quite a while, he unzipped a clean sweep on the Hobby Stock field of competition. Gary Pashley was a mere 0.085 seconds slower in qualifying, Lincoln Keeser was a tight fight to Wangsness' rear in the heat race, and Ken Au and Alan Dorn teamed up to give their alls in the feature, but
Wangsness sealed his bid at the finish line. The Delavan driver is fifth in season points, Larry Moen still holding guard on the championship ahead.

The 4-cylinder Bandit drivers are fearless. The fastest few often record qualifying times faster than half of the Hobby Stocks, the next division up. Bryan Johnson and Dan Birkett put on some of the closest racing of the night week in and week out, Brian Paulson often being a part of the mix as well. Johnson was the fastest of 21 cars, Birkett second, Dan Gosda third, and Paulson fourth. The contenders were split into staggered heat races, but Johnson won his. He almost had a clean sweep, but Birkett sewed up the victory in the feature, Johnson a close second, Paulson recording a disappointing 20th after an incident on the track during the race.

Rookie driver Mark Remsik backpedaled to the win in the reverse-driven Backup cars, exclusive to the 151 Speedway.  Sore necked, he shifted over Dave Moore and Steve Oetzel, securing himself as point leader.

July 9 is Q106 night at the races with one-on-one Blindfold races at intermission. Gates open at 5:00, qualifying at 6:30, racing at 8:00. For more information, log on to www.racingonline.com/columbus151.
