Woollen Victorious At Columbus 151 Speedway
By Jim Remsik

July 22, 2005; Columbus, WI. -  Mike Taylor of Stoughton and Tim Woollen from Sun Prairie brought the 35-lap Late Model feature to the line on Auto Armor night at Columbus 151 Speedway. As the green fell Taylor had the early advantage with Woollen sliding back on the outside. With a couple laps in Woollen began to earn back that real
estate from Taylor and would officially lead lap five.

Trailer races were enjoyed by all as the guys decorated their trailers up so good it was almost a shame to race them.

The side-by-side action continued until caution slowed the race on lap eight as Aaron Wilke (Waterloo) spun into the infield tires effectively ending his evening. With a slight lead on the last fully completed lap Mike Taylor led the restart over Woollen, Kurt Clapper (Dane), Dean Schultz (Juneau), and Bill Retallick (Marshall). Woollen jumped right back to the outside and made it work finally clearing Taylor on lap thirteen. With open track Woollen gained enough separation to pick up the win. Clapper, Retallick, Schultz and Taylor followed Woollen across the line at lap thirty-five.

Woollen also picked up his heat race and missed the clean sweep when Aaron Wilke turned a 13.494 second lap setting fast time. In other heat race action Allen Petrie (Sun Prairie) and Dean Schultz scored victories.

Jimmie Pankow (Jefferson) and Ken Morris (Madison) brought the 25-lap Street Stock feature up to speed. Morris raced hard to get the early lead and the inside groove away from Pankow. Pankow, making his first appearance this season, slid up the track and fell to the rear on lap two. Bobbi Bishofberger (Fort Atkinson) inherited the second position. Dan Schmidt (Watertown) tried the outside groove but couldn't make it work. Lap nine saw the caution flag as Rikki Bishofberger (Fort
Atkinson) checked up coming out of turn four. With nowhere to go the field behind her accordioned , Dale Weatherwax (Columbus) was unfortunate enough to be the driver just behind Bishofberger and was sent to the rear for the contact that caused Bishofberger to go around. Morris retained the lead on the restart. Kevin Anderson (Cottage Grove) made a move to the outside of Dan Schmidt but, couldn't get the job done before a lap eleven caution. The rest of the field avoided contact when Morris and Bobbi Bishofberger touched with Morris spinning as the field came out of turn two. During the caution Dustin Ward (Beaver Dam) experienced gearbox failure and again accordioned the field. On the restart Schmidt would be the new leader. Anderson would try the outside again officially taking the lead on lap sixteen. As the checkers flew Anderson was chased by Schmidt, Jim Rohrbeck (Portage), Brandon Riedner (Waunakee), and Grant Lindner
(Poynette).

Kevin Anderson also set fast time in the Street Stock division with a lap time of 14.180 seconds. Dustin Ward and Bobbi Bishofberger each registered heat race victories.

Colletta Gomas (Sun Prairie) and Nick Newton (Jefferson) led the Hobby Stock feature out onto the track for the 20-lap main event. Newton grabbed the early lead. Gomas fell off the pace on lap two and shuffled back through the middle of the field. Roger Stephenson (Cambridge) took the second position away from Travis Schneeberg on lap eight. Meanwhile back in the pack Tylor Schultz was creeping up in the third groove. Caution slowed the field on lap thirteen as Gary Haarklau (Madison) lost his left rear tire on the front straightaway. Newton continued his reign over the field on the restart. Lincoln Keeser (Whitewater) challenged for the lead on lap eighteen. It would be too little; too late as Newton beat Keeser at the line by less than half a car-length with Larry Moen (Madison), Jim Tate Jr. (Watertown) and Stephenson in close pursuit.

Andy Raley (Fall River) and Roger Stephenson registered heat race victories. Fast time in the Hobby Stock division was a 15.228 second circuit completed by Jim Tate Jr.

The 18-lap Bandit main event was paced by Linda Carignan (Poynette) and Kyle Padfield (Stoughton). Carignan jumped out to the early lead. Rodney Mundt (Johnson Creek) and Mark Balis (Edgerton) battled for the second position. By lap five Kyle Riedner (Waunakee) and Richard Boyce (Marshall) caught the lead group. Boyce tried the outside around Balis
and Mundt, contact sent all three scrambling and the caution fell sending all three to the rear. Carignan led Riedner to the restart but broke a rotor before finishing another lap nearly striking the turn-four retaining wall.  Riedner brought the field back up to speed and held off the advances of Ryan Hart (Edgerton) and Ryan DeStefano (Colgate) to pick up his first career feature win.

The Bandit Semi Feature victory was awarded to Dustin Oostburg (Slinger), he along with Ben Reuter (Columbus) transferred to the main event. Scott Bundy (Peshtigo) picked up a win the Consolation race. Heat race victories were recorded by Ricky Strait (Columbus), Ryan Oetzel (Brodhead), Linda Carignan, and Rory Padfield (Stoughton). Fast
time was set by Ryan DeStefano at 16.420.

Dave Moore picked up a win in the 8-Lap Wild & Cray Back-Up feature followed by a hard-charging George Wachuta (Brooklyn), Ryan Oetzel, Wayne Hook (Oregon), and Scott Hart (Madison).
