Retallicks Top Pepsi
Triple 60's Round 2!
By Jim Remsik |
June 10, 2005; Columbus, WI. - Father and son Bill and
Rob Retallick brought the Pepsi Triple 60 Round 2 Late Model Feature up to speed and raced
door to door until lap three when father Bill gained the advantage he would not
relinquish.
Rob began a slide back as far as fourth that looked to be permanent. Caution fell
on lap six for a spinning John Wasserburger of Poynette who collected the vehicles of
rookie Tim Woollen and Brian Paszek. Wasserburger tried to continue but had suffered
severe front suspension damage. On the restart fast qualifier (13.497) Steve Dobratz of
Rio tried to make the outside groove work for him with limited success.
By the midway point Bill Retallick had found separation between himself and second place
Clayton Braaksma who was being challenged on the outside by Rob Retallick. The caution
flag would fly again on lap thirty-eight after contact between Mike Taylor of Stoughton
and Waterloo's Aaron Wilke sent Taylor around on the back straight away. On the restart
Rob Retallick made a strong push for second when Tyler James of Oconomowoc spun on the
back straight away of lap forty.
Retallick would officially take the second spot on lap forty-two as caution fell for the
final time for a spinning Jim Syvrud. Syvrud of Portage had been sparring with Andy Wendt
for the seventh position.
Rob would challenge father Bill Retallick on the outside and race side by side but would
not be able to take away the position. At the finish of the Pepsi Triple 60 Round 2
Feature It would be Bill Retallick followed by Rob Retallick, last week's feature winner
Clayton Braaksma, Ron Bishofberger and Don Gaserude both from Fort Atkinson.
Late Model heat race victories were awarded to Tim Woollen, Kurt Clapper and Dennis
Schmidt. Woollen also picked up a win in the Semi Feature and transferred into the main
event with Nick Wendt of Watertown.
Rikki Bishofberger and Ken Morris brought the Street Stock feature to the line.
Bishofberger checked out early building a straight away lead by lap twelve. Don Trush made
a strong charge from back in field to the fourth spot when caution fell as Brandon Riedner
spun in the center of turns one and two. On the restart Trush would quickly dispatch the
second and third place cars of Jim Rohrbeck and Dustin Ward to challenge Bishofberger for
the lead. Caution slowed the race on lap twenty as Dan Schmidt of Watertown spun. Trush
would take the lead soon after the restart. The field would take the white flag second
place Rikki Bishofberger spun in turns three and four. Don Trush picked up the win
followed by Dustin Ward, Jim Rohrbeck, a hard charging Kevin Anderson and Dennis Schwark
of Sun Prairie.
Bishofberger had earlier picked up a heat race victory along with Brandon Riedner of
Waunakee. Fast time was set by Kevin Anderson at 14.183.
In Hobby Stock Feature action Tony Chase and Andy Raley took the green flag. Kevin Zielski
of Oconomowoc suffered a flat tire in the first turn and almost got out of the groove when
he was run over by Mike Amador of Mazomanie. The incident earned the field a complete
restart. Chase would grab the early lead and would be followed closely by Jim
Robinson. Lapped traffic made the difference as Robinson used Coletta Gomes to box in
Chase in turn three. The next lap Chase would get out of shape and collect last week's
feature winner Alan Dorn in turn two. In the ensuing melee Lincoln Keeser and Mike
Storkson would tangle and spin in turn three. Robinson would lead the field to the green
where
Lincoln Keeser and Storkson would make contact again only this time Keeser's tire
separated from the rim ending his evening. Robinson was challenged by Jim Tate Jr. but was
able to hold on to the lead. At the line Robinson was followed by Tate, Brian Hebl of Mt
Horeb, Andy Raley of Fall River, and Larry Moen.
Heat races went to Jim Robinson of Orfordville and Nick Newton of Jefferson. Fast time was
set by Mike Storkson at 15.387.
Ryan Oetzel of Brodhead and Kyle Watters lead the field to the line for the 18 lap Bandit
feature. Nick Nolden would grab the early lead on lap two. Caution fell on lap seven for
Ben Lewis who was parked in turns one and two. With Nick Nolden in a commanding lead the
battle was for second. Tom Bleeker found his way around the outside of Ryan
Oetzel. Brian Johnson found his way through the field and took away the second position on
lap twelve just as Nolden began to hit lapped traffic. Nolden's lead would shrink
dramatically but, Johnson would run out of time. As they crossed the line it would be
Nolden, Johnson, Bleeker, Ryan Hart of Edgerton, and Fast Qualifier Ryan DeStefano out of
Colgate (16.912).
Nick Nolden picked up a heat race win along with Tom Bleeker, and Brittany Boyce of
Marshall. Boyce would also pick up the Semi Feature and transfer to the Bandit Feature
with Ben Reuter of Columbus.
Rick Verdon of Fitchburg would take the pole position starting spot and turn it into a
victory. Dave Moore of McFarland gave chase but spun at the finish line creating a parking
lot under the flag stand. Following Verdon was George Wachuta of Brooklyn, Dave Moore,
Ryan Oetzel of Brodhead, and Scott Hart.
