By Andrew Schaller

September 7, 2007; Columbus, WI. - Beaver Dam's Aaron Falbe claimed his second feature win of the season in the 50 lap season championship feature on Friday night at Columbus 151 Speedway.  While Falbe was capturing the trophy, Dean Schultz of Juneau was laying claim to his second straight late model championship.  Delbert Desjarles took the early lead on lap two and started to pull away from the pack while the battle raged behind him for second.  John Acker held the spot while Steve Schlosser looked to make the pass.

The mechanics races, proved on point.  Working on a car, and racing them, can be two different things!

.  The first of four cautions flew on lap 11, erasing Desjarles' large lead.  On the restart, Schlosser took over second and set his sights on the leader.  Caution number two flew on lap 16 as Desjarles lost control of his mount in turn two and spun, handing the lead over to Schlosser.  The restart saw Falbe charge to the outside of Schlosser looking to lead, but Schlosser reclaimed sole possession of the top spot a lap later.  Falbe continued to hound the rear bumper of Schlosser until lap 27 when Schlosser opened up the bottom lane and allowed Falbe to slide in and take over the lead.  Two laps later, Schlosser and Andy Tomlinson tangled bringing out the third caution. As the green flag returned, Andy Wendt found himself on the tail of Falbe, looking for a lane to pass.  Wendt stayed in Falbe's rear view mirror until lap 42 when debris caused the final caution period of the event.  Wendt was unable to avoid the debris and was forced to the pit
area to inspect the damage.  Don Gaserude was next in line to challenge for the win, but as they cruised to the checkers, it was Falbe out front followed by Gaserude, Jeff Falbe, Ron Bishofberger and Al Weishoff.  As mentioned, Dean Schultz was crowned track champion having sewed up the title entering the night's events.  Setting the pace in qualifying was Steve Dobbratz with a lap of 13.200 while heat winners included Shaun Scheel, Greg Bowers and Bobbi Bishofberger.

Chris Ehrhart of Deerfield lead every lap of the 35 lap street stock feature en route to his victory in the event.  Starting from the outside of row one, Ehrhart took control on the first lap with James Helmer sliding right behind into second.  Ehrhart and Helmer continued to run first and second through two cautions until lap 20 when Helmer got loose in turn four allowing Brandon Riedner to take advantage to move into second.  Helmer slid back to fourth behind Bret Schmidt. The third and final caution flew with four laps to go, putting Riedner right on the rear bumper of Ehrhart for the lead.  As the green returned, Riedner put heavy pressure on Ehrhart, but was unable to make a pass for the top spot.  Crossing under the checkers first was Ehrhart followed by Riedner, Schmidt, Helmer and Tylor Schultz. Poynette's Tim Syvrud took home the 2007 street stock championship with a 310 point advantage over last season's champion, Kevin Anderson.  Syvrud was also quick qualifier on the evening with a lap of 13.950.  Heat winners were Johnny Robinson and Tony Showers.

Gary Pashley of Marshall used his win in the 20 lap hobby stock feature to vault himself to the 2007 track championship.  Entering the feature event, Pashley trailed Jim Tate by only 16 points for the title.  Starting from the outside of row two, Pashley found himself in second behind leader Alan Dorn by lap four.  By lap ten, Tate was in fifth, needing two more positions to maintain his points lead.  Tate got underneath Kyle Stark for fourth on lap 14 while Pashley continued to run in second.  With three laps to go, Alan Dorn opened up the bottom lane, allowing Pashley to drive under for the lead, and forcing Tate to have to pass two more cars to claim the title.  A lap later, the caution flew and lined up the pack for a two lap shootout.  On the restart, Tate was able to wrestle third away from Dustin Ward, leaving him one position shy of the title.  As they crossed the line, it was Pashley for the feature win as well as the season championship. Rounding out the top five were Dorn, Tate, Larry Moen, and Stark. Pashley took home the title by a mere four points over Jim Tate.  Kyle
Stark was fast qualifier on the night with a lap of  15.186 and Ward took the heat race win.

Gary Stark of Waunakee sewed up his championship with a win in the 20 lap bandit feature event.  Starting from the inside of row nine, Stark sliced through the pack and into the top five by lap six.  Meanwhile, Dan Ellis was pacing the field out front until the only caution slowed the event.  After the restart, Ellis lost control and spun to the infield, just as Stark cleared for second.  This handed Stark the lead, and he never looked back as he cruised to the win.  Following Stark across the line were Kyle Watters, Stephen Scheel, Carlyn Voigt and Jess Watters.  As mentioned, Gary Stark claimed the 2007 bandit track championship.  Jake Wasserburger set the pace in qualifying with a 15.841 second tour of the quarter mile.  In heat race action, winners were Jeff LeFave, Stark and Wasserburger.

In wild and crazy back up action, Dave Moore of McFarland claimed the win in the final feature event of the season while Bruce Havel wrapped up the championship.  Moore grabbed the lead entering turn one of the first lap.  Lap two saw George Wachuta spin while running in second, spacing out the field considerably.  But by lap six, the pack was bunched up once again, as Andy Ward looked to lead.  But Moore was able to fend off the advances, taking the win followed by Ward and Ryan Oetzel.

This concludes the 2007 season at Columbus 151 Speedway.

Congratulations to all our champions.  We would like to thank all the fans, drivers and sponsors for a great season and see you all next year!
