Welcome to Door County Speedway |
Door county in the
summer time and images of sunsets on the bay, sandy beaches and quaint shops come to mind.
But to many, a Door County Summer also means fast cars and fierce competition at Sturgeon
Bays Thunderhill Speedway.

Dormant for nearly a decade, the
speedway roared back to life in 1993. Each Saturday night from mid-May through September,
an average of nearly 100 race teams congregate at the Door County Fair Park on Sturgeon
Bays East side to vie in four competitive classes.
The 6:00 p.m. start time is
especially popular with families offering a chance to see a complete show and still get
back home at a reasonable time. The Speedway features two classes sanctioned nationally by
the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA), the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock
Cars, and regularly feature drivers that have ranked in the top 20 in the country.
The Street Stock and Bomber divisions
round out the show as the Speedways entry level classes. Door county drivers share
the spotlight with drivers who make the trip each weekend from throughout northeastern
Wisconsin. The Speedway itself has seen a transition since it reopened. Fans will be
treated to a brand new, handicapped accessible, cover grandstand in 1999. The pit area and
parking lot were completely redone in 1998 making for a very fan friendly environment.
The wide, semi-banked third, mile
clay oval offers three wide action and plenty of places to pass leading to an exciting
show from start to finish. The Door County Fair Park is located on 14th Avenue
near the Cherry Point Mall in Sturgeon Bay, WI. |
