Dart scores another Mod checkerd at Door County Speedway! By Dave Panske

July 14, 2001; Sturgeon Bay, WI. - A perfect night for racing greeted fans and drivers alike Saturday night to the Door County Speedway. 

Scott Derenne stayed in front of the modified main for the opening 4 laps before Buck Schmelzer pulled into the top spot. Point leader, Todd Dart, quickly moved through the field and took the runner up spot on lap 7 and moved into the lead 2 laps later. Shawn Olson and George Henkel followed Dart to the front and the leaders pulled away from the field.

A caution on lap 12 bunched the pack for the final time but Dart was able to pull away over the final laps to record his third division feature win of the season. Olson, Henkel and Schmelzer ran together and were joined by Dan Ratajczak and Jeremy Jacobs over the final laps. Olson took the second place finish with Henkel taking third. Jacobs was the fourth place finisher with Art Siefert in fifth and Scott Derenne making the top six.   Schmelzer and Ratajczak both had problems over the last three laps to drop off the pace.

Mark Derenne grabbed the lead in the Stock Car main and pulled ahead to a lead while the pack stayed tight behind. Kerry Douglas, Don Aregoni, Pat Davister and Eric VanIten were working to the front. Davister made into the runner up spot on lap 7 and one lap later, VanIten was in third. While the pair battled for second they closed on the leader and Davister pulled into the top spot on lap 11. One more lap was written down before VanIten moved into the runner up spot and the battle continued for the lead. Both drivers wanted the inside line

And were leaning on each other pretty close when a caution appeared on lap 13 for a stalled car. The battle started again for the lead with Bernie Reinhardt, Matt Junio, Dave Bouche, Jay Matthias and point leader, Craig Paque now right behind. The leaders made heavy contact on lap 18 in turn four, with both spinning out. The caution put both drivers to the back for the restart, but VanIten retired to the pit.

Reinhardt found himself from third place into the lead with Bouche right behind. Junio, Wally Lhost, Matthias, Rob Gagne and Paque were set to make a 2 lap run at the leader. Reinhardt held off all challengers to record his first feature win of the season. Bouche, Lhost, Junio, Paque and Matthias rounded out the top six.

B.J. Soquet lead the Street feature through two cautions over the first three laps. On the second restart, Mike Soukup pulled into the lead with Kevin Sternard right behind. The pair pulled away from the field and swapped the lad a couple times while running side by side for the next 8 laps before Sternard settled into the lead. A final caution on lap 11 bunched the field with James Tebon in third, Rick Johnson fourth, point leader, Gregg Siebold and Kevin Jandrin next.

Siebold pulled out of the lineup before the restart. Sternard held off Soukup over the final few laps to win his third feature of the season. Tebon, Johnson, Aaron Thornton and Jandrin rounded out the top six.

Lucas Long and Scott Reinhardt swapped the lead several times over the first five laps before Jeremy Wiitala powered into the top spot on lap 6 and checked out on the field to collect his fifth feature win of the year. The battle stayed tight for the rest of the field with Long finally prevailing over Reinhardt for the runner up finish. Tracy Koontz, John Knudson and Tom Frea made up the top six.
