July 21, 2001; Sturgeon Bay,
WI. - A beautiful night for racing action on
a fast track produced four repeat feature winners Saturday night at the Door County
Speedway.

Wally Lhost (#98) picked up the
victory in the IMCA Stock Car consolation event to earn a feature starting berth.
Shawn Graf (#00) earned a checkered flag this evening when he came home a winner in his
Bomber heat race. |
The Modifieds took to the track first with Rick LeMieux grabbing the lead for the
first 2 laps. Several cautions shuffled the field around before the green again appeared
on lap 3 and found Jared Siefert taking to the outside to take the lead. Siefert pulled
away immediately leaving the race for the runner up spot. LeMieux had point leader, Todd
Dart move into third and challenge until moving inside to take over second on lap 7.
One lap later, Dart got a break with a caution that erased Sieferts huge lead and
bunched the pack. However, with the green out again, Siefert was able to pull away one
more time to a couple length lead. Dart tried both the inside and outside lines but could
not get close enough to mount a serious challenge. George Henkel, Chris Derenne and Darren
Otto moved up for a 4 way battle with LeMieux for the third place finish.
As the white flag appeared, four cars near the rear of the field got together in turn
four. The red appeared to stop the race complete, with the field able to pick their way
through traffic. Siefert took home his second feature win of the season with Dart second.
Henkel took third, Derenne fourth, Otto fifth and Darrell Massart sixth.
Kerry Douglas started the Stock Car feature leading the way through three cautions during
the first 4 laps. After that, the race went to the finish. Shawn Kilgore took over the
runner up spot on lap 4 and used the inside line to move into the lead on lap 7. Benji
LaCrosse moved into second place one lap later and pulled behind the leader.
With Kilgore using LaCrosses inside line, LaCrosse moved to the outside and found
the traction he needed to pull by into the lead on lap 11. LaCrosse never let up and
stayed high to collect his division leading fourth feature win of the season. Kilgore took
his best finish of the season in second with Douglas holding on for third. Greg Gretz took
a strong fourth place finish with Rob Gagne and point leader, Craig Paque rounding out the
top six.
The leaders in the Street Stock main put on an exciting two, three and sometimes four wide
show during their feature. Mike Soukup set the pace for the first lap before Gary
Reinhardt took over and led the way until lap 5, when Jeff Vlies used the outside line to
take charge.
On lap 7, the first of 2 cautions appeared for a multi car crash that started in front of
the grandstand, the result which knocked 2 cars out of the race.
Vlies continued to lead with Charlie Kroll, Kevin Sternard, Reinhardt, Soukup and James
Tebon bunched up behind. A final caution on lap 11 put point leader, Gregg Siebold in the
thick of the battle with the lead pack.
Vlies was able to find the right line to hold off all challenges to win his second feature
of the season. Sternard broke through the logjam to take the runner up spot. Reinhardt
took third by inches over Kroll with Siebold right there in fifth. Soukup rounded out the
top six.
The Bombers closed the night with a similar race to the Streets with three and four wide
action.
Shawn Graf led the opening lap before losing the handle and spinning in front of the
field. He was able to pull in behind the pack with Tom Frea taking over the top spot.
Tracy Koontz pulled alongside of the leader and the pair ran side by side swapping the top
spot several times until a lone caution appeared on lap 7.
Frea was scored as the leader with Koontz second. Point leader, Jeremy Wiitala third, Ryan
LeMieux, Scott Reinhardt and Wayne Moore right behind.
On the restart, Wiitala used the wide outside line to take over the lead and pull away
from the pack for his sixth feature win of the season. The field stayed tight for second
with Moore able to slip into the runner up spot for a strong finish in his first outing of
the season. Reinhardt took third with Frea holding on for fourth. LeMieux and Koontz
rounded out the top six.
