July 13, 2002; Sturgeon Bay, WI. - For the first time in more than two decades a mid-week racing program featuring IMCA modifieds and IMCA stock cars will be held at the John Miles Fair Park, where the Door County Speedway in Sturgeon Bay is located, Thursday night, August 8. The event has been dubbed "The Trackmaster's Hill Shootout" and will be held as part of the popular Door County Fair.

On tap at the wide, third-mile clay oval will be a 30 lap IMCA modified feature and 30 lap IMCA stock car feature. The modified winner will take home a cool $1,000 and $100-to-start while the winner of the stock car main will take in a cool $750-to-win and $75-to-start. The features will start 22 cars, which will include two provisionals.

"We're excited to be bringing this race up to the Door County Fair," said Perry Popour, race organizer. "With our 7 p.m. start time that should give some out-of-area drivers some extra travel time to get up here. And with running two premium classes fans will be assured that this program will be an exciting one for the fans up here. Plus, we've got a top notch fair and we encourage race fans to stick around and enjoy the midway as well."

The racing surface will also be groomed by De Pere's Bobby "Trackmaster" Marquis. For many years Marquis prepped the track at the fairgrounds and currently performs the same duties on Friday nights at Luxemburg Speedway.

A long list of some of Wisconsin's toughest competitors have committed to running this event, which will follow the IMCA sanction but without the claim rule. Wisconsin's winningest mod driver, Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam will be there. Schraufnagel recently went 5-for-6 in feature action at Powercom Speedzone in Oshkosh and has a smashing total 15 wins on the season.

Other heavy hitters who have committed to the show include multi-time Luxemburg and Seymour track champion Brian Mullen, defending Seymour champion Scott Mullen, and Hortonville's Mike Wedelstadt will be here along with Oconto Falls Julie Mcdermid, who two years ago became the first woman in IMCA history to ever win a modified feature race. Norway, Michigan ace Joe Haferkorn, The crafty veteran will be making a rare appearance at the speedway since the winged modifieds stopped running in the mid 1980's. De Pere's Mike Mashl will also be there.
