August 2, 2002; Sturgeon Bay, WI. -  Nearly 75 race teams in two divisions are gearing up for a big money special to be held as part of the Door County Fair in Sturgeon Bay on Thursday night, August 8.

The "Trackmasters" Hill Shootout will take place at John Miles Fair Park where the Door County Speedway is located. The fair-time special event will feature IMCA-type modifieds and IMCA-type stock cars. The two classes will use the IMCA rules with the exception of the claim rule. The modified feature winner will receive $1,000 while the stock car main event winner will take home $750.

"We're looking for fans to be able to come and enjoy two great classes of racing and still have time enjoy our midway and all our fair has to offer," said event director Perry Popour. "We've already fielded inquiries from many out-of-area drivers and it should be a top-notch field that shows up to do battle on Thursday night."

Popour will serve as race director for the evening and Bobby "Trackmaster" Marquis will head up the track preparation of the third-mile, clay oval. Marquis prepped the track for several seasons in Sturgeon Bay and currently has provided Luxemburg Speedway with a consistently smooth racing surface all season long.

Among the newcomers expected to give the likes of Todd Dart, Randy LeMieux, Jared Siefert and George Henkel a run for their money in the modified division are brothers Brian and Scott Mullen of Seymour, Hortonville's Mike Wedelstadt, Oconto Falls' Julie McDermid and Beaver Dam's Jay Schraufnagel, winner of an unprecedented 21 modified features in Wisconsin this season.

In the stock car division locals Benji LaCrosse, Shawn Kilgore, Dave Bouche and Jeff Vlies are expected to take on challenges from a handful of Shawano Speedway and Dodge County Fairgrounds regulars. Topping the list of visitors in Horicon's Jeremy Christians, winner of 14 IMCA stock car features this season at Wisconsin ovals.

The pit gates open at three p.m. with racing getting underway at 7 p.m. Adult admission is $8.00 with $5.00 for children. Pit passes are $15.00 with the car and driver $18.00. For more information call Perry Popour at 920 856 6967.
