New Winners Mark Evening at Door County Speedway!
By Dave Panske

June 8, 2002; Sturgeon Bay, WI. - An afternoon weather change and brief shower, caused a 1 hour delay in getting the Saturday night racing program started at the Door County Speedway, but the wait provided an extremely fast tacky track which still allowed the full program to be completed before curfew. Three of the divisions saw first time winners and the other was a three-peat.

Von Eytcheson (#11) became the third different first time feature winner this season at Door County Speedway when he topped the Street Stock division.

The Streets took to the track first with Von Eytcheson taking the lead from the front row and despite a couple cautions in the first three laps, was able to hold on to the top spot when the final 11 lap run began on lap 4. Gregg Siebold, Mike Soukup and Troy Muench took off after the final restart, leaving a second race for fifth place between point leader, Kevin Sternard, Charlie Kroll and Kevin Brungraber.

The front four remained unchanged to the finish with Eytcheson taking his first career feature win with Siebold, Soukup and Muench behind. The race for fifth saw several position swaps with Kroll finally taking the official finish in fifth with Brungraber and Sternard behind.

It took a couple tries to get the first lap recorded in the Modified final, but once started, went non stop to the finish. Tony Herbst set the pace from the start for the first 6 circuits before dropping out of the race, which put Darrell Massart into the top spot. Chris Derenne, Todd Dart, Mike Cole, and Randy LeMieux were right behind. By the half way mark, Jared Siefert and point leader, Dan Ratajczak were into the top six and chasing down the lead four pack. Massart

Was able to open a lead as the battle for second got hotter between Derenne, Dart and Cole. Massart was able to control the lead to the finish to pick up his first feature win since August 5, 2000. Dart was able to slip by Derenne on the final lap for the runner up finish. Cole took fourth. Siefert and Ratajczak rounded out the top six.

The IMCA Stock Cars also clicked off a non-stop feature event, with rookie contender, Jeff Vlies, taking the top spot at the start with Bernie Reinhardt, Don Aregoni, Joe LeBotte, Russ Tuttle and Craig Paque behind.

Vlies slowly left the field behind to battle for the runner up spot which Reinhardt held through the mid point when LeBotte moved ahead. Over the final half of the contest, defending champ, Paque moved into third with Pat Davister, Benji LaCrosse and Larry Karcz, Jr coming from deep in the field .

A late race charge by LeBotte, closed the gap on the leader, but Vlies drove away with his first career division feature win. Following LeBotte were Paque, Davister, Reinhardt and LaCrosse.

Several cautions stalled the beginning of the Bomber nitecap and the tacky track took a toll as only three cars remained on the lead lap at the finish.

Shawn Graf led the way through lap 8 before an ailing engine slowed him down. Point leader, Cory Haen, inherited the top spot and drove unchallenged to his third straight feature win. Wayne Moore was in striking distance until his car erupted with a couple laps left. At the finish, Haen was followed by Joe Hegnet, Dave Serrahn, Kevin Laughlin, Moore and Greg Aregoni.
