New Door County Race Promoters Prep
for 2003 Season!
Racetrack Renamed to "Thunderhill Raceway"
By Joe Verdegan
October 24, 2002; Sturgeon Bay, WI. - The third-mile clay oval located at John Miles Park in
Sturgeon Bay will see new promoters in 2003.
Bryan "Woody" Wodack and Brian Duquaine will take over operations of the racey,
circle-shaped oval. Wodack is best known for his eye-catching vinyl lettering jobs on race
cars, while Duquaine is the general manager of the Door County Co-Op. The track will be
renamed ThunderHill Raceway, the name the track had under Rick Ledvina's helm from
1993-2000.
It will continue operating on Saturday nights beginning at 6 p.m.
The pair will replace Tom Stark and Todd Jensen, who promoted Saturday night races at the
track in 2001 and 2002. "We want to advertise and promote this program up here very
aggressively," said Wodack. "This is a great racing program but you've got to
get the word out. By working together cross promoting our show with nearby Luxemburg
Speedway that will be a plus, too."
Wodack says new clay will be thrown onto the track's surface before winter. The Saturday
night program will also feature some of the best lighting of any dirt track in the area,
thanks to a state-of-the-art Musco lighting system that was completed late last year.
"We plan on having a practice under the lights before the season starts to showcase
our lighting system," said Wodack. "We also will throwing a banquet from last
year to show our appreciation to the driver's and start things off on the right
foot." The date for that banquet is expected to be released soon.
As for the divisions that will compete at the track there will be a couple of changes.
"The IMCA modifieds and IMCA stock cars will be running weekly along with the street
stocks. And like Luxemburg, we will be running the IMCA hobby stocks. The local bomber
cars have been grandfathered up here for a year and response has been good.
We also will be running an entry level four cylinder class with details on that to be
released soon."
