Chalk one up for the ladies as Carolyn Nosser (#29) took home a victory in the Pure Stock main event.

On the track , the biggest winner was veteran driver Tom Nesbitt who led from start to finish to record the Late Model feature win, the first for him here this season. Other winners tonight during the holiday program were Mike Anderson, Mike Keller, Bryce Johnson, Butch Madsen and Carolyn Nosser.

A small field of Late Models took to the track for their main event with John Kaanta and Nesbitt sharing the front row. Kaanta had the preferred inside line but Nesbitt was strong right from the start as he found good traction and jumped ahead of Kaanta who seemed to have trouble getting a hold of the track. Kaanta continued to slide back as first Chad and then Duane Mahder moved past him. A.J. Diemel and Joel Cryderman experimented with different lines on the track but neither were particularly successful.

Nesbitt was hooked up on the bottom and he continued to stretch his lead. Chad Mahder tried to narrow the gap but without success. As the race continued under the green, Nesbitt remained smooth and drove home for the win without a serious challenge of any kind. The forty eight year racing veteran was trailed by the Mahders, Caley Emerson and Diemel.

The Modified feature also produced a first time winner as as Mike Anderson drove home for the win. Paul Niznik and Kevin Rogers shared the front row but Anderson made a strong move on the low side and moved from the second row to take a quick lead. Kent Baxter, Kevin Adams and Todd Siddons were moving up in the field as they all looked to head to the front. Adams moved to the high side along with Eric Scribner and they seemed to have some success using that line. However, it proved hard to hold the top and both drivers basically gave up on that line on tucked to the bottom.

Adams night came to an end when he lost a driveshaft which resulted in the only yellow flag of the event. Anderson continued to hold the lead but Siddons was now tight on his bumper. Todd looked to the bottom of the track but Anderson had that groove covered and after a few laps, Anderson began to pull away from Siddons. Mike continued to run a strong race and the happy driver took home his initial win of the season. Siddons and Scribner trailed with Baxter and Scott Duval completing the top five.

Mike Keller made an outstanding drive to come from the ninth starting position to take the Super Stock honors. Steve Hallquist had the pole and after a bad start on the opening green that was washed out by a yellow flag, he secured the lead on the second attempt. Bob Brenner, Jim Willner and Jesse Redetzke were all challenging Hallquist as Keller and Cory Mahder gradually worked their way to the front. The race had several yellows for assorted spins and that kept the pack bunched and allowed some drivers farther back to work their way forward.

Keller really picked up the pace near the midpoint of the event and he quickly closed on the leaders. He was working the low side as he took second from Redetzke and began to close on Hallquist quickly. With a handful of laps remaining, Keller powered under Hallquist in turn two and took over the lead. Two yellow flags in the last two laps kept things tense, but Keller maintained his line to take home the win. Redetzke settled for third ahead of Willner and Mahder.

The Midwest Modified feature was one of two that were extremely close with the final decision in doubt right to the line. Paul Clark and Dave Teatz showed the way on the green for the main event but Teatz pounded the wall and the race was slowed before a lap could be completed. It was one of three attempts to get the first lap in before racing was finally under way. When the action finally stayed under the green, Bryce Johnson ducked under Paul Clark to take the lead. As Johnson put a little distance on the pack, Kevin Adams and Shane Halopka were on the move as they raced hard with Ryan Olson and Alan Bohlman for position. Johnson continued to look strong up front, but the slicing and dicing behind him was intense. Adams went to the cushion and he was able to drive up to second and set sail after Johnson.

With only a few laps remaining, Adams was closing at a rapid pace on Johnson. The final corner saw Adams drive deep into the corner and he was coming rapidly up on Johnson as they raced to the line but Johnson hung on by a bumper for his first win of the year. Halopka finished third while Dave Salzman Jr finally shook a weekend of frustration by coming from twentieth to fourth at the finish with Olson next in line.

The other extremely close finish saw the Pure Stocks battle it out to the wire. This one went smoothly with only one yellow flag to slow the contest. Tommy Richards got the jump at the start but when he slipped high, Carolyn Nosser was right there to take over the lead. Wade Aspen, Josh Rud and Mike Knudtson were close behind her and they jockeyed for position. Knudtson moved into second until he spun on the front chute with everyone somehow avoiding him and the race staying under the green.

Meanwhile, the duo of Austin Schultz and Justin Lindner were on the charge from the fifth row. They quickly moved into challenging position and when the yellow flew for a spin, it set up a two lap sprint and washed out Nosser’s big lead.

On the green, she held the low line as Schultz and Lindner were right behind her, waiting for a mistake. They were still right there on the last lap and driving into turn three, Nosser slid up the track, giving Schultz an opportunity on the inside. Lindner also dove for the hole and they made the slightest of contact which just might have been the difference. The three flashed across the line in extremely tight formation but all scorers saw it the same with Nosser the winner by inches over Schultz with Lindner close behind. Aspen came home fourth ahead of Rud.

The nonstop Street Stock feature was also a very competitive race with a late race pass ensuring a new winner in that class also. Cory Crapser earned the pole position and he took the early lead with heavy pressure coming from Darrel Hazelton, Troy Fransway and Mike Conrad. Butch Madsen, Jay Kesan and Steve Golat were a part of a tight pack that was also challenging the leaders. Crapser continued to lead but Hazelton and Fransway were challenging at every turn of the track.

The defining moment of the race was when Madsen decided to move up the track. Once he moved up to the second lane , he immediately caught fire and began a charge to the front. He drove up to the second spot and pulled to Crapser’s rear bumper. After following Cory for a couple laps, he was able to get to the inside in turn two and take over the lead. Once in front, he extended his margin as the battle turned into one for second. Crapser was able to hold of Fransway for the spot with Hazelton and Conrad rounding out the top five.

Racing action will resume next Sunday, June 4th , on M & L Brands Inc. and Leinenkugel night at the speedway. The racing action will begin at 6 p.m.
