After a ninety minute rain
delay after the sixth event of the night for a surprise rain
shower, the show continued on a very fast and tacky racing
surface.
Thatcher made an unbelievably quick run to the front in the
modified main event as he used guile and some nice breaks to
charge into the lead before most of the pack had a chance to get
their engines warm. Mike Bauer and Kevin Rogers held the front
row and they battled on the opening lap. Thatcher quickly moved
forward after starting tenth and he found some racing room down
the back chute on the second lap. He went to the cushion and
swept past the leaders and held the point by the time the second
lap was scored.
It looked like Thatcher might run away but Kevin Adams had other
ideas. He moved into the second spot and started to cut into
Thatchers advantage as Luke Schilling and Mike Anderson raced
for third. Adams was having success and by the midpoint of the
event, he had cut the lead to just a couple car lengths as he
lead footed the cushion. Todd Siddons had moved up to challenge
Schilling for third when he broke, triggering the yellow flag on
lap fifteen. Adams went for broke on the green, and he nearly
got under Thatcher for the lead but he couldnt pull off the
maneuver and slipped back a few car lengths. Suddenly Adams
slowed with suspension problems and the yellow waved again.
Thatcher had an easy time of it the last three laps as he pulled
away for the win. Schilling finished second ahead of Anderson,
Scott Duval and Kent Baxter with attrition taking its toll with
only six cars left running.
Myers was scored the leader of every lap of the Super Stock main
but he received several stiff challenges , the strongest of
which came from Eric Olson. Myers pulled into the early lead as
Bernie Christianson, Olson and Paul Erikson battled for second.
Olson went to the high groove as passed Erikson for the spot as
Steve Hallquist, Jim Willner, Jesse Redetzke and Cory Mahder all
jockeyed for position.
Myers continued to lead through a couple of yellow flags, one of
which was when Christianson pounded the back stretch wall.
Erikson got a strong jump and went past Olson for second as
Hallquist moved in to race Olson for that position. There was
still a big group of cars battling for positions behind the lead
but Myers remained comfortably in front. Once more the yellow
flew and the field was bunched up for a five lap sprint.
Myers continued in the lead but Olson went to the cushion again
and flew around Erikson for second and began to close on Myers.
Olson had a good run as he closed to within a car length on the
final tour. Myers held on as Olson tried to dive under him on
the final corner as they finished about a car length apart.
Hallquist came home third ahead of Erikson and Mike Keller.
The other second time winner was Ryan Olson who used a good
starting position to rocket away from the field on the extremely
tacky surface. Ralph Stark and Joe Chaplin Jr battled on the
opening lap but Olson quickly got past them to take over the
lead. Once in front , he quickly stretched his advantage. The
yellow flag waved with five laps complete when Brandon Bowe
crashed into another slowing car and damaged his machine.
Olson again stepped away from the field as Kevin Adams started
to move up after starting in the tenth position. He was
gradually working his way to the front with him finally getting
past Chaplin Jr and closing on Stark. Looking low, he drove
under Stark to take over second and while he pushed the last few
laps, Olson had a corner length lead at the finish. Stark and
Chaplin Jr completed excellent runs in third and fourth with
Brad Hudson rounding out the top five.
Randall won his first Street Stock main in what turned out to be
a slam fest with several hard crashes that disabled a number of
cars and saw only six on the track at the finish. The battle was
excellent early as Clark Swartz, Steve Golat, Jared Lindner,
Ryan Lindner, Randall and Chanda Fjorden-Nord were running in a
tight pack. Randall went to the cushion and edged into the lead,
only to have it challenged by Swartz who was running side by
side with Randall. Finally Jimmy was able to edge away slightly
but the second position was still in much doubt. The hardest
crash occurred with just two laps to go when the Lindners
tangled with Mike Conrad and then Jay Kesan plowed into the
spinning cars. Three of the four were eliminated in the wreck
and the race would see a green, white and checkered finish.
Randall got away to a small lead and despite a front nose piece
flapping in the wind, he held on for the victory. Golat finished
a strong second with Fjorden-Nord moving into third ahead of
Troy Fransway who nursed home a bent front end for fifth
trailing Swartz.
The Pure Stock feature got off to a wild start when Carolyn
Nosser bounced off another car and did a flip into the infield
in turn three. She was fine, and the race was restarted with
Luke Lindner in the lead. Lindner and Mike Harshman then swapped
the position back and forth with both having an opportunity to
hold down the point. Amans started seventh on the grid and was
quickly coming to the front as was Mike Knudtson and Ralph
Schultz.
Amans swept to the outside of Harshman to take over the lead but
with the competitive field , he found it hard to open up much of
a lead. Harshman and Lindner continued to battle but Schultz was
moving up at a rapid pace. He stuck a nose under Harshman to
take over second and while he pushed on the last lap, Amans held
on for the win. Harshman and Lindner both had good runs with
Knudtson rounding out the top five.
Next Sunday, June 25th, will be a very special night at the
Eagle Valley Speedway. For the first time in the history of the
track, the 410 cubic inch winged sprint cars of the Interstates
Racing Association will be on hand to compete in a full program
that will include qualifying, heat and semi features and a
twenty four car feature field. Drivers from throughout the
Midwest often compete with the IRA and such well known sprint
drivers as Mike Reinke, Scotty Neitzel, Travis Whitney, Donny
Goeden, Bill Warren and others will be on hand with an expected
field of approximately thirty winged warriors competing in a
program that will shatter all existing track records.
Also competing will be the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and the
Eagle Valley Pure Stocks. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. with
qualifying scheduled for 6 p.m. and racing to follow
immediately.
