Late in the Winged Super Modified feature event, Randy Butler (#5) uses the low line to slip past race leader Chuck Tuschl (#99). Tuschl took over the lead of the event on the fifth lap, and paced the field until Butler made this pass with just three laps remaining in the race. Butler took the win, his second of the season, while Tuschl settled for a close second. |
Polesitter Eddie Steahler of Kewaskum jumped into the lead in turn one of the opening lap. On the second circuit, the first red flag appeared for a two car incident in turn three involving last weeks feature winner Billy Kreutz of Kiel and Jim DePagter of Sheboygan Falls.
Following the restart, Staehler continued to hold down the top spot until lap four, when two-time and defending Winged Super Modified track champion Pete Ostrowski of Milwaukee stalled his machine in turn two top bring out the second red flag.
When the race resumed, the third starting Tuschl bolted around Staehler along the outside groove to take over the top spot in turn two on lap five. The third red flag flew on lap ten, after Sheboygan's Brad Dahmer made contact with the frontstretch retaining wall.
Tuschl maintained a soild cushion over the rest of the field until lap 18 when he began to feel pressure from the outside front row starting Butler.
Two laps later, Dennis Klumb of Grafton stalled on the back straightaway to bring out the fourth and final red flag of the race. Following the final restart, Tuschl moved up to the high groove, while Butler dropped down to the low line to mount an all out challenge for the lead.
