Paul Pokorski of West Bend rode the outside groove to his third career Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Winged Super Modified feature victory in the 30 lap headliner at the Sheboygan County Fair Park Saturday Night.
Polesitter Craig Schueffner of Sheboygan Falls bolted into the lead at the drop of the green flag. The lone red flag of the event appeared on lap three when second year driver Steve Bricker of Two Rivers flipped in turn three.

After the restart, fifth starting Pokorski used the high line to work his way into the runner-up position on lap six. Pokorski, who has now won three of the last four EWSC Winged Super Modified feature races dating back to last season, moved in to challenge for the top spot on lap 11 as Schueffner began to negotiate slower traffic.
Two laps later, Pokorski charged around Schueffner high in turn two to take command of the race. The fifth year competitor maneuvered his way through heavy lapped traffic over the remaining 17 circuits as two-time and defending EWSC Winged Super Modified track champion Pete Ostrowski of Milwaukee raced to the front of the field from his inside fifth row starting spot.
Pokorski went on to take the checkered flag a quarter straightaway ahead of the hard charging Ostrowski, who pulled off a last lap pass of Schueffner to secure second place.
Schueffner finished third, Ken Jay Fiedler of Sheboygan Falls finished fourth after starting seventh and second row starter Billy Kreutz of Kiel placed fifth.

Former track champion Dick Hed of Plymouth claimed a wire-to-wire victory in the 25 lap Limited Late Model feature event. Hed, who had started second, outpowered John Scharenbroch of Sheboygan Falls to take the lead in turn two of the opening lap. The 27 year racing veteran the proceeded to build up a quarter straightaway advantage over third row starter Tim Veldmann of Plymouth by lap ten.
Hed worked his way through lapped traffic starting on lap 14 as he opened up a full straightaway cushion over Veldmann, who was substituting for Glenbeulah's Howie Weiss, on the 20th circuit.
The 1969 EWSC Winged Super Modified champ cruised over the final five laps to notch his first feature victory of the 1997 season in the non-stop event. Veldmann placed second, Jeff Fechter of West Bend moved up from the ninth spot to finish third, Kohler's Mark Zimmermann finished fourth after starting eighth and Paul Dingel of Sheboygan came from inside the fourth row to finish fifth.
Tim Thompson of Campbellsport earned his second career triumph in the 20 lap Super Stock feature race.

Outside front row started Jim Bailey of Oostburg out battled polesitter Ron Sherwin of Plymouth to assume the lead on the initial lap. The first of two red flags appeared on lap two for an incident in turn two involving Oostburg's Jeremy Walvoord and Howards Grove driver Dean Gosse.
On lap seven, Thompson moved into second place from his outside fourth row starting perch. Thompson pressured Bailey several times over the next eight laps before a red flag slowed the pace on lap 15 after Plymouth drivers Brian Kessler and Dave Haag collided in turn three.
When the race resumed, 14th starting Dave Horneck of Greenleaf and eighth row starter Brian Gilles of Elkhart Lake came up to join Bailey and Thompson in the battle for the lead.

Thompson, who was the 1995 co-Super Stock champion, worked his way past Bailey in turn two on lap 17 as the top four drivers continued to wage a tight duel for the top positions.
The sixth year Super Stock racer held off Gilles and Horneck over the final three laps to post his first feature win of the new season. Gilles was second, Horneck finished third, Bailey wound up fourth and Kevin Kenealy of Hebertus placed fifth.

Randy Butler of Juneau captured the 15 lap Winged Super Modified "B" Semi-feature. Sheboygan's Steve Zieglebauer won the 15 lap Limited Late Model semi-feature while Doug Teunissen of Oostburg collected the victory in the 15 lap Super Stock semi-feature.
This Saturday night, May 24th the EWSC will hold the 13th annual Etchie Biertzer Memorial Night of Racing with extended features in all three divisions. The special event honors the late West Bend Winged Super Modified champion who won four straight track titles between 1977 and 1980. Time Trials will start at 6:00 p.m. with racing to follow at 7:00 p.m.
