Records fall again at Lake Geneva Raceway Awards Banquet!

January 23, 1999; Elkhorn, WI. - It was the 16th. Annual awards banquet under the direction of Kevin Dawson promoter and owner of Lake Geneva Raceway and over 340 drivers, family members, sponsors and crew members jammed the Monte Carlo Room in Wlkhorn, WI on Saturday night. Just over $20,000 in cash and contingency awards were given out to drivers that raced in the super late model, super stock, sportsman and sport truck divisions.

Jack Kossow's Wisconsin Allison Legacy cars in their first full season were present too. The 1998 champions  were Al Schill of Franklin, who captured his second straight title in the Super Late Model division. John Janssen of Genoa City, who claimed his first super stock crown.   Joel Clossey from Beloit, winning his first sportsman title, Rolf Tillman out of Woodstock,Illinois winning his third sport truck crown and Bobby Giers of Ingleside,IL. winning the first Legacy series top spot.

Special presentations from masters of ceremonies Kevin Dawson and Jack Kossow then names the tracks 1998 Rokkies of the Year.  Paul Loppnow in super lates, Marty Robb in super stocks, Kevin Rybuck in sportsman and Jeff Goodwin in the Wisconsin Allison Legacy series.

Denny Norton Jr. one of the owers of Performance unlimited in McHenry,IL. gave out contingency awards to John Janssen, Tommy Nevoso and Adam Regnier as they were the only drivers that qualified, out of 63 drivers that took the green flag at least one time during the season, in the super stock division.

Turbo Blue Racing fuel awards went to Kent Burkoth, Landry Potter and Larry Los in the Super Late Models. Joel Clossey and Mike DeKeuster in the sportsman cars. While both Nevoso and Burkoth received Bassett Wheel contingencies.

For the second year Larry Surleta won the 5 Star Stock Car Body , in a drawing of qualified drivers in the super lates.

Drivers that received plagues and/or point fund checks besdies the champions in each class were   Randy Rodgers, Kent Burkoth , Mark Hartline, Denny Hiffman, Danny Darnell, Landry Potter, Mark Simonsen, Mike Simon, Joe Fischer, Paul Loppnow, Brian Ulrich, Ed Schneiderwent, Mike Simon Jr., Dennis Vito, Larry Surleta, Chuck Duncan and Jim Bennett in the Super Late Model division.

In the super stocks, Tommy Nevoso, Adam Regnier,Don Radke, Zac Deeringer, Jerry Cowan, Bob Kiodahl, Marty Robb, Todd Peterson, Willie Schumacher, Doug Peterson, John Maki, Jeff Lorenz, Katie Taylor, Tim Muller, Tim White, Lyle Bottlemy, Tom Fay, Greg Peterson, Terry Hilgendorf, Scott Peterson and Shawn Donnelly recieved awards.

The sportsman division saw, Kevin Rybuck, Tim Schmitt, Jack Kossow, Dan Erikson, Brian Baker, Mike Dekeuster, Rick Tackman Jr, Mike Lange, Willie Peterson , Tommy Golf and Brad Troxel, take home awards while in the sport truck division, Butch Edwards Jr., R J Ross, Chad Ross, Dave Shine, Dan Ross, Jim Olson, Kurt Ross, Bob Kiodahl and Jim Phillips brought home hardware.

In the wisconsin Allison Legacy series, Jeff Goodwin, 16 year old third generation driver Erik Darnell, Randy Coates, Jeff Conn, Joe Beyer, Bay Darnell, Dennis Petretti, Jack Kossow, Monty Coffman, Doug Reichley, Tom Wiley, who also received the sportsmanship award of the year , from Kossow Motorsports, Joe Welch, Brian Wiley and Tom Bauer were honored.

To put the winter time rumors to rest, Kevin Dawson announced that the 1999 season opener would be on Saturday night April 10th. for weekly oval track racing. Drivers were asked to participate in the 22nd. annual BARS "Lets Go Racing "Auto Show to be hold on March 12, 13 and 14 at the Original Factory Outlet Center located at Interstate 94 and Highway 50, just 7 miles west of Kenosha and 4 miles North of the Illinois / Wisconsin state line.
