Bob Moeller darted out front of the 15 car super late model feature, with Tim Lynn Jr., Larry Surleta, Mike Simon and Joe Fisher, right on his tail. Lynn quickly moved in on the leader, with everyone, jockeying for a new position. Coming into turn three, then entering turn four, Lynn changed lanes, causing the field to look like someone, brake checked. Lynn's run came to a halt, as Starter Dave Rex Jr. threw the black flag.
Out of nowhere, Russ Blakley, who started in the fourth row outside, shot into second. Simon became the leader, with Moeller right there. Denny Hiffman got around Surleta on lap four, with Moeller feeling the pressure from Hiffman.
Kent Burkoth and Hiffman tangled on lap nine, stopping this tight running event. Simon reclaimed the lead, once the green was shown, with Blakley second and Moeller right at his side . The next go round Moeller inched ahead of Blakley, only to lose the spot, the next lap, as Blakley charged back into second. Simon was firmly in front, as Fisher and Durbin got around Moeller, on lap thirteen.
The fast timer Randy Rodgers got under Moeller, with only inches between the top five. Rookie Scott Applin looped his mount in turn two, causing another break in the action, on lap fifteen.
The next green saw Simon command the top spot with Durbin looking for a way around the
leader. Rodgers got by third place Blakley one lap later, as the field tightened up. Just
as lap seventeen began, Durbin slipped in front of the field. Rodgers got Simon before
entering turn two, but as they exited the turn, heading down thewback straightaway,
Rodgers mount veered right, crossing in
front of Simon, making contact, then into the wall and then crossing the track and coming
to rest on the infield. Rodgers evening was over and Simon who was in the wrong place at
the right time, was told to start in the rear, because of the no judgment rule, after
contact.
On the restart, Durbin had Danny Darnell under him for the lead, nearly succeeding to take over that top spot coming off that tricky turn two. Darnell bobbled, giving Durbin alittle breathing room Fisher was right on Darnell's bumper in third waiting any other mistake, with Al Schill and Jeff Storm fighting for fourth, changing positions afew times during the next few laps. It was a nip and tuck last five laps, as Durbin won his third feature of the season.
This gives Durbin and point leader schill the only drivers with three wins. There are 6 other drivers with feature wins this year. Darnell took second, with Fisher, Schill, Storm, Hiffman, Blakley and a recovered Simon rounding out a very close top eight.
Jim Hughes shot out front of Mike Kooi, Dan Huber, Greg Janutka , Adam Regnier and Scott Eggebrecht of the 23 car super stock main event. Kooi worked on Hughes for those first two laps, before grabbing the lead. Eggebrecht moved up and around Hughes the next go round, as Regnier worked on the former leader. On lap six, Regnier's left rear tire went down and before the next lap was completed, quick timer Shane Bishop broke an axle, bringing the action to a halt, for the only time during this feature.
There was a big clean up, with gear lube all over the surface. The next green brought Kooi in front one more time, with Eggebrecht all over the leader. Hughes running third now had Marty Robb right behind him. Janutka didn't leave much room between those top three, as he worked the inside of Robb. Right behind this cluster Huber and Troy Weber were putting on a show, as Jerry Cowan tried to get around both of them .
This extremely tight battle raged on for the next five laps, as everyone diced for a position. Robb got Eggebrecht on lap twelve, with Janutka slipping into fourth on lap fifteen. Weber wasn't content with his position, as he worked on Janutka and Eggebrecht.
Somehow, Robb slipped into the lead on lap sixteen. But Kooi got it back, then the next lap saw the lead change three times, before Robb securely take the lead from Kooi.
Robb managed to take the win, with Kooi second, Janutka was third, with Weber, Eggebrecht, John Janssen, Cowan and John Maki so close at the finish. After the race Kooi lost his position during a post inspection . This moved everyone up and credited Hughes with eighth.
With R.J. Ross out front of the Sport Truck feature, the excitement behind the leader came on lap six, as point leader Bob Koidahl and Rolf Tillman, the 1998 champion, subbing for Chad Phillips, got together . First time coming into turn three, contact was made, then entering turn four, and exiting turn four Tillman nearly went head first into the wall, after Koidahl rubbed his right side.
Tillman did end up smashing into the wall, but causing only minor damage, compared to what could have happened. Both drivers were black flagged and their night was over.
Dan Ross caught the leader R.J. Ross with only two laps to go, scoring his second victory. Chad Ross and Jim Olson both nipped the former leader, R.J. Ross at the wire, with Curt Matson and Lance Ross completing the top six, of the sport truck feature.
It took Jim Veugeler three laps to move in front, after starting near the rear of the field in the Rascal Outlaw event. Early leader Butch Torkelson chased the winner all the way across the wire, in a close contest. Bob Torkelson was third, with another former moto cross racer, Kevin Popaeko fourth. Clay Lagerwall, John Benkert and Chris Carlson were next.
